Montero Sports hot starting problem

Hi, i would like to seek some advice or help.
I have Montero VGT model 2013 and recently im experiencing starting problem when the engine is hot. Meaning when I start it for the first time, there is no problem but after few minutes of running and I turn it off then turn own, It would not start and need to cool down for at least an hour thne it will start like nothing happens.
I brought it to MMC Pasong Tamo and they replace the plunger solenoid valve and fuel filter but nothing happens. Then I broight it back and now they are saying the problem is in the common rail but I start to doubt since its running ok but only having starting problem when its hot and I am thinking maybe te faulty one could be sensors or minor instruments and not this expensive common rail...
please help and hope to hear some advise for second opinion. Thank you.

nangyari ito noon sa FX (2C Engine) namin. will try to remember the diagnosis... pero we just decided to replace the entire engine. hehehe

have your compression checked...

if Manual yang Montero mo... try mo patulak if ayaw mag start (you'll need 2-3 men for this)... kapag mag start, you will require an overhaul

naalala kong bigla... you can also have your valve clearance checked... baka di na sya nagsasara ng maayos

That’s definitely a frustrating issue, and you’re right to look for a second opinion before committing to a costly common rail replacement. Since your Montero starts fine when cold and only struggles on hot restarts, it does sound more like a heat-related component or sensor issue rather than a full common rail failure.

Here are a few areas worth checking or asking another mechanic to test:

Crankshaft Position Sensor / Camshaft Position Sensor – These can malfunction when hot, causing no-start conditions until they cool down. Common culprit in heat-related start problems.

Fuel Pressure Regulator or Rail Pressure Sensor – If these are sending inaccurate readings when the engine is warm, the ECU might prevent proper fuel delivery on restart.

Fuel Pump Relay or Wiring – Heat can cause intermittent failure in relays or connectors, cutting power to the pump when hot.

Temperature Sensor (Engine Coolant Temp Sensor) – A faulty reading could make the ECU misjudge fuel mixture during hot starts.

Starter Motor / Heat Soak – Sometimes the starter solenoid struggles when the engine bay is hot, though this is less likely if the engine doesn’t even crank.

Since your engine runs smoothly once it starts, that’s another clue the injectors and common rail itself are probably fine. You might want to take it to a reputable diesel specialist (not just the dealership) who can check live data readings when the engine is hot — that usually reveals if a sensor is dropping out.
