replace alternator or bearing? pls HELP asap

patulong naman po, nasira ang alternator ko last night, may whistle sounds at parang may kumakatok, the technician says alternator. sirs, it is better to replace my alternator to new one, or replace to surplus or change bearing, sino ba mas ok mga sir?

also, pag lumulusong ka ba sa baha inaabot po ba iyun? may car is XL corolla..

Nasira alternator? As in hindi na nagcha-charge? Kung may humuhuni, baka nga bearing lang, pero nasa loob ito ng alternator kaya dapat baklasin.

Kung ok pa naman IC at hindi pa sunog yung mga wires ng alternator, palitan mo na lang ng bearing. (Although I'm not sure kung pwede itong bilhin separately. Malamang kakatay sila ng surplus bearing, tapos salpak na lang sa alternator mo). Otherwise, go for replacement brand new. Hirap sumugal sa surplus. Out of the question na ang OEM kasi sobrang mahal. To give you an idea, 6.2k ang b-new replacement for 97 Accord and 39k ang OEM.

baka nga hindi sa alternator ang ingay nyan?
baka yung auxillary or idler bearing between the alternator and the a/c compressor ang umiingay located sa side ng engine?

in case yung alternator nga, bearing lang dapat palitan hindi yung buong alternator mismo. less than P500 lang ang bearing compare sa price ng brandnew/surplus alternator. goodluck po, sana maayos na yan.

kung bearing nga. nasa 220 yung maliit at 380 yung malaki. pakalas mo na para may sample. masyadong mahal ang buong alternator kundi naman sunog.
iwas-iwas na lang sa malalim na baha hangga't maaari.

Dalhin mo lang sa trusted auto electrical shop and have the alternator overhauled. Mura lang and readily available ang alternator bearing. Kung walang ibang sira, it would take about 2-3 hrs to repair lang. Ang mura lang ang labor charge niyan.

Usually sealed ang mga bearings ngayon so there is no question of dirt getting in and destroying it. Most causes of bearing failure would be reaching it's service life.

But I used to like frequent engine wash. And once the service station attendant used a powerful degreaser on my engine and a few days later my alternator bearings failed. Until now I am not sure if the engine wash contributed to the bearing failure. I had that alternator overhauled and it lasted several years.

If you have your alternator overhauled, have them replace the carbon brushes too.
