Need advise - rat bites

Good day! So today I tried starting my car. but its shaking. and check engine icon is on. upon checking the hood I saw rat bites in some of the wire. tried contacting my casa about this. and they said it needs to be towed. ask them how much for the repair. and the advisor said it depends. it might go up to 30k if "sagad sa engine hamlet/hanglet?? yung ngatngat ng daga" . (not sure if tama yung rinig ko). and possible daw mavoid ang warranty kapag pinarepair ko outside. Just want you advise on this as im not knowledgeable to car parts. Will this get me a 30k worth repair? This is the parts I checked that has rat bites. Thank you for all your answers!

is the car still under warranty?
if it is, i am assuming it has comprehensive insurance.
i believe rodent ngawing is covered by that compre insurance?

seriously, faced with a potential 30K bill,
i would consider having it fixed by an electronics technician.
they're just wires devoid of insulation, sir. that is, if the damage is limited to the wires, which, from the pictures, i believe it is.
a competent technician (even a hobbyist!) can effect the repairs.
"cut and splice, and cover with insulation", guided by color-coding.
no uber-special tools needed, and it can be done in the comfort of your garage.
all you have to do, is to convince the technician to come over to your place.

just like anything new, it can be a daunting task.
but i believe it's do-able.

so why the rodent ngawing?
one explanation in google, is that in the past, some wiring insulation materiel were derived from soybean.
and rodents knew it.
heh heh.

casa does not repair parts or wirings.
casa replaces parts or wirings, i.e., entire assembly and not 'tingi'.

another post-er here mentioned that his casa was quoting him 130K as worst case scenario, to replace the entire wiring loom...

i do not know if the casa allows it now,
but an acquaintance many years ago, befriended the casa mekaniko, and would call on him during his days-off, to service his car at home.

wiring loom = engine harness (your engine hamlet/hanglet).
google it for pictures.

I think that advisor will not provide me the number of their repairman.. I tried looking for a home service mechanic, send him the same photo and he valued the repair for only 1.2k.

I checked all the wires that I can see. and it seems tjose are the onyl wires that has rat bites, those parts are on top of the engine , I believe connecting for the cylinders?? so 2 of them have the damage..

In you view sir, basing on the photos.. will this makes the casa replace the engine harness?? or itatsgoi lang nila yung mga wires ulit?? thank you

Im not sure if this is a serious question about the rats.

obviously that goes without saying na po. ofcourse, need extra care for it not to happen again, (already ordered pest control). but you cant fully control this po eh, even I clean my house everyday. I cant be certain on people from the outside, kapitbahay/ community.

Regarding warranty, I do agree it won't be covered by warranty.

Regarding insurance, I believe it can/will be covered. Why? If all else fails, there is a claim for own damage as a worst case scenario for insurance claims where there is no other party that caused it. But I think this just needs some notarized affidavit or claim to be submitted to insurance provider. It will take time for the approval, but I don't see any reason for them to deny it, since compre insurance ka pa, if compre insurance ka. Participation fee na lang dagdag mo if ever gusto mo umabot sa casa level (which is replace and not repair kaya mamahal). But if electrician lang gagawa, and it fails though... I'm not sure if tatanggapin pa as own damage ng insurance since tampered na ng third party yung wiring.

I believe it is better to clear up with a few phone calls with your insurance provider.

So you are from south sa taguig. Malaki chances jan sa area mo iLan na nabiktima ng daga.

mag-alaga ka pusakal yung nasa kalye. Pakainin mo gabi-gabi para jan magstay sa area mo.

pest control i dont know kung deterent yan. Ngayon pandemic madami case nginatngat ng daga wiring sasakyan.

Hi sir, thank you , my concern po kasi about diyan is what you said. time.. as we all know pagdatig sa claiming ng insurance it takes a week, month or longer bago maayos or even just maprocess. but I get po what you mean.. I decided na po na ipagawa sa mekaniko outside. since I needed badly to use the car not mentioning its christmas season and we re still in pandemic (i believe public transpo still have a high chance of getting the virus).. appreciate po your insight. salamat po!

prevention na lang po talaga, bumili na po ako ng racumin, traps tsaka peppermint spray. hindi ko po masearch yung sinabi ni sir glenn na pestO control.

keep the garage clean and litter-free, so as not to attract these pests.

brandishing a cat only shifts your worries from ngaw issues, to claw issues on the paintjob.
we have cats, without our willful approval, of course.
no ngawing issues here, but our paintjob does have some scratches.

i did have wiring issues years ago.
besta van. first time the reverse light failed, i brought the van to the casa.
"may aso po ba kayo?", asks the SA.
"meron. bakit?".
"ngingatngat po yung reversing light switch wiring nyo."
i looked at the underside, and installed a metal L-sheet, to protect the wiring from the dog's teeth.

ako may garahe din pero may daga pa din kase kahit ano linis mo ng garahe kung ang nakapaligid naman sa iyo ay dugyot eh aatake pa din ang daga...

ginawa ko na lahat tulad ng pag lagay ng paminta (crushed black pepper) sa makina at garahe, moth balls sa makina, engine wash, lahat wa epek

ang pinaka effective na pang taboy ko ng daga eh may 20watt LED lamp sa ilalim ng makina na naka automatic sumisindi pag dumilim na, yun sureball na wala na yung daga...

then eventually meron pusa na isip na tumira sa bahay namin, malambing naman siya kaya okay lang (kaso kapalit eh gasgas sa pintura, pero ok lang din kaysa naman sa kagat ng daga), ayun nawala na din ang daga dahil sa pusa, kung meron man daga eh patay na kase sinubukan kainin nung pusa kapag nakalimutan ko lagyan ng cat food o naubusan siya ng cat food yung daga pinag tritripan niya

nung may pusa na kame eh di ko na nilagay ulet yung 20watt na ilaw sa ilalim ng makina sa garahe...

with the repair, its a car mechanic po na naghohome service. unang quote niya sakin is 1.2k, 2 ignition coil socket po kasi nadali but then pag check nadali pala pati transmission at EPS, so overall he asked for 4k for the repair

If you still see (new) rat poop, that means you still have an infestation.

The only things that really work are poisons & traps.
The latter (traps) are not efficient in moderate to heavy infestations- you simply won't be able to kill enough to control them, pang maintenance & prevention lang ang traps, once you've been able to bring down the population to manageble levels.


What you'll have to do depends sa area mo. If there's a wet market in the vicinity or canal nearby, you'll have to be constantly vigilant sa vehicles mo, as long as you want to keep them rodent free. Mind you, hindi bec. upscale yung lugar safe ka na- andaming daga dun sa mga relatives namin sa San Juan/New Manila (the big grey ones) bec of the canal & estero networks dun.

Agree ako dun sa advice to clear the area (clutter) and remove all possible alternative food sources (that includes any pet food)

Tuloy mo lang yung racumin mo until the rats (baka mice lang sa inyo) stop feeding, then switch to another brand/formula for mga 1-2 weeks. Pag wala na talaga, start setting traps (pang maintain). Contimuous na dapat yung traps
