please. just want to be sure. i got a kensington portable power inverter and nakalagay sa specs na:
AC output power (continuous) 60 watts ac output power (5Mins) 75 watts

What does this mean? can i plug laptop chargers and other stuff? (be it 220v or 110v)

would really appreciate your inputs. thanks in advance.

For devices that work on 110 volts AC, the inverter can supply power continuously as long as the device's ratings do not exceed 60 watts AC or 545 mA (0.545 Amp). For devices needing up to 75 watts AC or 750 mA (0.75 Amp), the inverter can supply 110 volts AC safely up to 5 minutes only.

For devices that work on 220 volts AC, the inverter can supply power continuously as long as the device's ratings do not exceed 60 watts AC or 272 mA (0.272 Amp). For devices needing up to 75 watts AC or 340 mA (0.34 Amp), the inverter can supply 220 volts AC safely up to 5 minutes only.

Look at your laptop's power supply/charger, and check the input ratings (in AC) ... better yet, check the DC input voltage to the laptop itself, it might be near 12 volts DC. My Toshiba laptop is rated at 15 volts DC and runs OK directly plugged into the car's cigarette lighter jack.

just 5 mins only? i guess i have to use the inverter for really extreme emergencies then. thanks straightsix.

Probably. We used to have a power inverter for the laptop for the car, and it did get pretty hot at times. Sometimes almost painfully hot.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

For devices that consume up to 75 watts AC, yes.

Longer than that, the manufacturer cannot guarantee that the inverter will work properly. Overloading results in more heat than it can handle, which may result in failure. If it doesn't have thermal and/or overload protection, a part/s may burn out.

most DC-AC inverters only approximate a sine wave by 3-step (i.e. imagine going from 0-70-140-210-140-70-0 and then the negative cycle. This means there are high frequency harmonics in what you are supplying to the load. If that's an electric fan which only consumes the fundamental 60 Hz wave, the other terms of its Fourier equivalent is not used to drive the motor but is converted as heat.

Namimili rin ng load ang ganyang inverter. I think the switching power supply of a notebook is OK kasi all components of the approximated AC is used up.

Ang kalaban lang though is yung heat dissipation ng switching PS and ng inverter kasi they tend to design to be very compact.

The hotter the outside means it's dissipating the heat which is good as long as within the power rating ka ng inverter.

bakit ung nakuha ko na 12V DC to 220 AC na inverter walang problemang ganyan...i use it with my laptop and xda2 charger at the same time....sa Alexan ko nabili about P2500 to 3500 yata..

basically you have to use equipments within the power range nung inverter mo. Kung 60 watts lang na continous then yun lang kaya nun. So check mo muna yung isa-saksak mong device. Nandun naman yung wattage nun or look at the current (I) and multiply it sa voltage then you get the power, P=IV. Pag kinargahan mo nang mas mataas na wattage iinit talaga yung inverter coz it will try to supply yung current demand nung device hanggang masira siya.

I just got myself a portable power inverter. Pinabili ko sa officemate ko dun sa Best Buy. It's cheaper than the ones available here, $32. Yung nakita ko sa Ace Hardware, P1800 tapos 70w lang kaya.

140W yung rating tapos may surge capability na 280W. 120v nga lang output pero 2 outlets (plus an additional 12V DC accessory socket). Mayrun 25A fuse at heat/overload shutdown mechanism. Aluminum body with built-in cooling fan with a total weight of less than 1kg. Eto yung link ng product: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1057490438818

Mukhang sulit ako dito. Most electronic gadgets now have 100-240v input capabiliy and has a power rating of less than 100w. Tamang-tama na ito for PS2, cellphone chargers, laptop, camera, pocket pc, and other small electronic gadgets.
