Cars are very much an emotional purchase and, with the amount of money involved, constitutes quite a number of variables that should certainly be considered. The reason why I keep nominating the Changan Nevo Q05 is because it really is, bang-for-buck, the best hybrid in the 1.4M budget range.
1. Changan is the most reliable car manufacturer in China, which is why it has better domestic appeal there than SAIC (MG's parent company). Changan has been in existence since 1862. They have joint ventures with Ford and Mazda. They manufacture the full catalogue of Mazda models released in China as well.
2. The distributor is Inchcape Philippines which is a joint venture between Inchcape (a UK company started in 1847) and CATS (local distributor of Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar, Land Rover, Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram).
3. The Nevo Q05 has a better PHEV drivetrain than the SL5 (known as the Song Pro in China). It also has a far better drivetrain than the MG ZS Hybrid+ HEV-only power unit. The Nevo also has far more features and better ADAS as the SL5 is actually quite bare for a Chinese crossover. The interior looks a LOT better too. It is as big as BYD's Sealion 6.
4. The Nevo Q05 is basically a better Sealion 6 at the price of a Sealion 5. And, if you factor in the discount, the top of the line model is UNDER 1.4M.
BYD has a lot of momentum right now since it is the best selling EV and PHEV brand in the world, but it doesn't necessarily mean they are the "Toyota of EV's' as many people online are calling them. They don't have that same reliability reputation in China, which Changan enjoys domestically.
