Chevrolet to cease producing Spin, Sonic

As previously reported, General Motors, the mother company of Chevrolet, is restructuring its operations in Thailand. The measure, however, isn't limited to our Southeast Asian neighbor--it applies to the entire region as well.

Besides withdrawing its participation in the second phase of Thailand's Eco Car program, the American automotive conglomerate will instead focus on the production of the Colorado pickup, the Trailblazer and Captiva SUVs, and the Cruze compact car. Falling by the wayside are the Sonic subcompact car and the Spin MPV, which "will be phased out of the portfolio at the end of their current model-year life cycle."

"Around the globe, GM is focused on becoming a more customer-focused and operationally efficient company," said GM Southeast Asia Operations president Tim Zimmerman. "We must accelerate the transformation of our operations in Southeast Asia, particularly Thailand given the sluggish domestic market demand, by implementing changes to increase customer satisfaction and our competitiveness, speed up all processes, and put us in a better position to achieve future growth."

However, while production of Chevrolet's pickups and SUVs will continue at the Rayong, Thailand, plant, the carmaker's manufacturing plant in Bekasi, Indonesia, will cease its operations for the second time. The first time was in 2005, 10 years after the plant opened in 1995, before it was reactivated in 2013. The Bekasi plant currently produces the Spin for Indonesia and other ASEAN markets.

"Our employees at Bekasi are highly professional," added Zimmerman. "The Chevrolet Spin has been recognized as a well-made and well-appointed car by our customers, the industry and General Motors. We know this decision is disappointing for our hard-working employees in Indonesia. We will work with our teams and the local community, along with the Indonesian government, to support our people."

Indeed sir. As long as Chevy supports the old units with parts, they should be fine. But we might expect the resale value to drop because of this.

GM announced last week that it will cease production of the Chevrolet Spin at its Bekasi plant in Indonesia and the Chevrolet Sonic at its Rayong plant in Thailand by the end of June 2015. These announcements will not impact our Spin or Sonic customers in the Philippines, who will continue to receive the support they expect from Chevrolet. Warranty terms and spare parts availability will remain unchanged. In addition, Chevrolet dealers in the Philippines will continue selling the Spin and the Sonic for the coming months. Chevrolet and TCCCI remain committed to expanding our lineup of Chevrolet products for our customers across the Philippines by leveraging Chevrolet’s extensive global portfolio.

dont worry naman po kase hindi naman ititigil ang production ng spin at sonic because in g.m. indonesia 20% lng po ang kinikuha ng g.m. dun na units.. meron pang g.m. korea at g.m. thailand na pwede nilang makuhanan ng production. at malakas naman sa market ang unit kaya dinila bibitawan ang potencial na yun. god bless

Naapektuhan ata sales nang spin nung lumabas ang balita a few months ago na cease production na sila sa indonesia

Kung ngayon pa lang mataas na presyo howmuch more kung nasa india. My spin LS roofrail cost p88k per pc eh dalawa syempre yun.. I am claiming the insurance for FR fender at hindi ako mabigyan ng quote sa planta dahil hindi padaw sila nagkakaroon ng ganun part, WTF collision parts wala sila stock?

There are a lot of other choices that are better than the Chevrolet Sonic. Honda Jazz, Mazda2, Suzuki Swift, Toyota Vios to name a few.

Bro, lipat ka na lang ng casa. Our spin got into accident last month and needs to replace fr bumper. Fortunately, may stock sila nun and ang nagpatagal pa is yung loa ng insurance ko. Chevy gh ko siya dinala for replacement nung bumper.

Lipat na rin insurance from Standard to Mapfre. Bad customer support ang chevy, hirap ng parts. Bawi na lang ako sa fuel consumption 17-21 k/L. P450 one way to bicol last byahe ko[emoji106]🏻
