    Hello,

in my opinion, the most effective anti-theft device, is the one that deters the bad guy from even attempting to target your car.
to me, the most effective anti-theft device, is the more visible one.. the one the bad guy sees and makes him decide to pass up your car..
the bad guy knows, the longer he stays in your car, the larger the chances he will get caught. so any device that will make him stay longer to do his bad deed, will likely deter him.
so what are these devices? steering wheel locks, steering wheel-brake pedal locks, blinking LED lamps... huge yale padlock on your door.. a burly policeman standing beside your car!

now, what are the devices that will attract these guys? number one, is the potentially expensive doodad sitting visibly on your car seat.. so always hide them from view.. cover them, put them in the trunk...

Agree with Dr D. Pwede rin uniform ng sundalo, pulis, abu sayyaf at milf. Sabit mo sa bintana at make sure visible sa labas. Combination of alarm and locks.

    defense in depth

    1. a good car alarm
    2. a lock, preferably a gearshift lock but a steering wheel to brake pedal lock will do
    3. backup alarm. something like a battery powered motion sensor

Just an additional safety feature, try sealing/locking the driver side door permanently. You may also opt to adopt Mr. Bean's style, bringing the steering wheel anywhere with him.

    great gadgets!

    in our local scene, however,

i believe car robbers are robbers of opportunity.
he's gonna target the car, because "it's easy to steal".
thus, any gadget that's easily visible to the would-be robber, that tends to make stealing the car a bit more difficult, will make him get second thoughts, and will probably pass up yon car. these include the cheapest steering wheel locks and blinking alarm lights (na fake naman pala). visible items that will make them think it's not gonna be easy, will deter their evil plan.
and (maybe) windshield stickers of prominent government offices like police, might also be good deterrents.

another opportunity, is when they see objects of interest on the car seat. electronics, expensive bags (kahit peke), wallets.
car owner should do well to keep these in the trunk, away from view.

an ex-robber was once asked, what cars they target.
    "yung mamahalin ba?"
"we'd rather steal a vios or an innova or expander, than a european car."
