November 12th, 2009 12:24 AM #3Garmin is definitely a world leader in navigation systems. And you'll be surprised to know that the best Philippine gps map today is Garmin compatible...courtesy of roadguide.ph....http://roadguide.ph/

Roadguide.ph Philippines Map is great, it has lots of POI's, but it still has no SEARCH Capability, AFAIK.
OSM Philippines Map now has preliminary Search Capability, *but* in my experience, searching only works in mapsource. I dunno about other GPS units, but searching on this OSM map (Oct. 2009 pre-release version) doesn't work on my Nuvi 255W.
Great to see roadguide's map has roads in Floridablanca, whereas OSM only has the National Road mapped in that portion.

^ No search capability? What do you mean? I can search any street, city, town, or POI.

November 12th, 2009 09:12 PM #7You are very funny. Obviously you don't have the contributor's map of roadguide.ph. How dare you say it is doesn't have search capability when in fact it has the feature ever since it was created. Please don't post misleading information when you don't have the full knowledge of what you're talking about.
And while you're at it, would you care to download the 1.09 demo map and compare it with your OSM map. You'll be surprised to see that it's not only in Pampanga that roadguide.ph's map has more details. And that is a fact. Accurate as it can be.

On Garmins, you can search by Exact Address, POI, Intersections, Extras, Cities, Home, and Long./Lat. But as far as exact address searches, the map currently isn't that good yet (but we're getting there). There are some exceptions but generally, most POIs doesn't have a House or Building Number associated with it yet. The house/building numbering here in the Philippines is so convoluted that it may take a while before it can be supported in the future. Remember that roadguide.ph is just a group of contributors like you and me. We don't have high-tech mapping hardware/software like TomTom or Garmin does in the US. In the meantime, you can just search for the street or a POI nearest your destination and navigate to it.
AVT does not have support for exact address look-up. The only available option for destination search is Intersection, Home, POI, Nearby POI, and Long./Lat.
Having both AVT and Garmin, I'd say that AVT still has a very long way catching up. The "acclaimed" Accu-Map map software that they're using is just pure hype, IMHO. For instance, the POI database is nowhere near roadguide's. For example, try searching for a "Ministop" in Makati with AVT/Accu-Map and it can only give one (1) result. Bleh
The same search on a Garmin/Roadguide.ph GPS yields twenty-one (21) results... just within a 1 KM radius. :D Fifity-two (52) results in a 5 KM radius.
Ah ok. So Wala pa Lang locally released na delicą dito. Pinapakyaw kasi Ng mga outdoor lovers...
