I had my headlight wiring upgraded sa wizzards today. I have 100/90W H4 bulbs and 100W H1 bulbs with the H4 wired for both hi and low beam.
The work was good. soldered, taped and may wire loom pa dun sa wire that crosses from left to right.

Una di naman daw kailangan lagyan ng fuse yung positive but I insisted. So nilagyan ng 30 amp fuse. Pero isa lang for everything.

After 30 minutes of driving, and about 5-6 times of flashing my headlight (coz those darn jeeps keeps stopping to pick up passengers), bukas ako headlight and wala na. Buti na lang malapit na ako sa bahay. Checked the fuse and yun na nga, blown fuse.

Now, my question is, kailangan ko lang ba taasan yung rating ng fuse? How many amps do I need? What caused the fuse to break? Sobrang lakas ba ng power draw ng headlights ko?
Would the heat in the engine bay cause it to break earlier than usual?
Ano ba max rating na pwede ilagay na fuse without rendering it useless?
How bad is it kung walang fuse na nakakabit? Direkta na yung wiring sa positive.

Dami ko tanong pero I hope you guys can help me. :D

    Your headlights are now 100 highbeam + 90 lowbeam + another 100 for high/low beam, total of 290 x 2 = 580 / 12V = 48A for both headlights or around 24A each.

This is assuming you have 4 bulbs.

yup, I have 4 bulbs. So I just need to have a higher rated fuse? 50A?

mahirap mangapa.... if i were u papacheck ko nlng s electrical expert... ganyan din yung akin... ang gnawa ko una tiaasan ko ung ampers then nasunog naman ung wire(natunaw) then nagpakabet ako ulit pero hnd ako bumili ng new ang ginawa ko pnagawa ko s nag wa_wiringpinakapalan ko yung wire then using surplus relays like the relays of nissan and nilagyan ko ng fuse n made in germany( kasi ung iba malambot yung plastik natutunaw)...... then ngayon ok n...... wag ka magtipid jan kasi pag nadamay yung pnaka wiring ng auto mahirap hanapin.......

mukhang tama yung computation sa taas...make it 20 amps ON EACH bulb....rather than a single bulb for all.

The fuse are ment to break when over loaded...I don't think 24 amp estimate would overload a 20 amp...at tsaka delikado na mataas ang amp rating ng fuse, baka unang masunog or masira ang hindi dapat masira/masunot bago pa maputol ang fuse...tulad ng nangyari kay jeff108.

Sana puede yung circuit breaker sa bahay para sa oto....(meron na bang circuit breaker na pang 12volts?!?)....para hindi na kailangan magpalit...irereswitch lang uli. Always carry a spare kasi ang headlight nawawala lagi iyan pag-gabi o madilim (madalas sarado na rin ang tindahan ng fuse or its too hazardous na to drive in the dark without any headlight).

BTW you should also check if nag-iinit ang wires (and the bulb socket) mo when the lights are on. This could also mean that the wires used were not properly calculated to carry the load of power na dumadaan dito (the same reason why your fuse breaks easily). If yes, ibalik mo sa pinagpagawaan mo yan.

    my 2 cents. peace.
