may problem brake system mo, the light doesn't just mean the hand brake is engaged, it also signals when there's a problem with your brake system. Have it checked ASAP, you might have a leaking brake line or a brake assembly problem.

I don't think I agree with the hand brake light "signalling that there is a problem with the brakes". As far as I know, this is simply a switch which your hand brake lever activates and deactivates, much like how your brake pedal activates and deactivates your rear stop lights.

Regarding your problem, it could be as simple as this switch malfunctioning. Check the area around your hand brake lever and you'll surely see the switch. If you're not comfortable checking it yourself, any decent car electrician will be able to do it for you.

Bottomline, kung "normal" yung takbo ng sasakyan mo when the hand brake is down (hindi mabigat o hirap), then there's nothing wrong with your hand brake.

    Hope this helps.

Its most likely the hand brake like switch na usually located sa may area ng handbrake. It could be underneath the car or if you uninstall your handbrake covers you should be able to see a push-pull type switch na malamang needs oiling or replacing na.

Check your brake fluid level... it might be low.

Yoda: It happened to me first hand... a leak in the brake hose near the master brake assembly triggered a warning in the brake warning light. Happened to a friend's Lancer as well when his brake fluid level was critically low...

pero in my case kasi, i always check my brake fluid level, its always full pa naman.

so i have to have the brake line itself serviced?

Umiilaw din yung sa handbrake light every now and then habang nagda-drive ako and i was suspecting the hand brake lever switch, balak ko pamandin na baklasin at i-troubleshoot yung switch nitong restday namin.

Maybe the fluid-level sensor is at fault.

Laging on yung handbreak light ko...
