my third and main brake lights dont lit up when i pressed on the brake pedal. Im planning to DIY it, any suggestions where will i start? busted fuse kaya, what are the possible reasons kaya. btw ride is Lancer itlog. TIA
1. busted fuse - check your manual where the brake lights fuse is at.
2. the pedal switch is stuck in the open position - need to remove and free up or possibly replace. especially if you have the habit of suddenly releasing the brake pedal, the pedal tends to hammer on the switch on its return. this causes the switch to mushroom and thus get stuck.
baliktad! yung switch is always on contact with the pedal when the pedal is released. normally closed switch yun e, when the pedal is up then the switch is depressed and in the off position. when the pedal is pressed it releases the switch and it closes.
if both the fuse and switch seems okay, try checking on the wirings (meron pa ulit ng connector yan under the carpet- baka loose) start tracing from the brake lights going back to the panel.
ako din sa akin akala ko fuse, switch, or wiring. ayan nadala ko pa sa casa... busted 3 lights. hindi ako maka DIY kasi may injury ako noon and i will go out on a long trip the next day. they all went almost on the same time. palit bulb
kaya kung ako check the bulb first even though how low the possibility of it happening. kamot ulo na lang ako noong hindi ko maisipan na to check the lowest cost problem... check the bulbs. napamahal pa tuloy ako sa labor.
ang hirap sa casa pag simple lang ang problem pinalalaki. what is the possibility of 3 bulbs going south, unless may overload ng voltage, hmmm...makes you wonder.
Hindi naman nila pinalaki, naka bantay naman ako. Pati talaga 3 bulbs light went out. I checked the fuse, tried to fiddle the switch as much as I can with my injury. So jump to theory ako na switch or wiring na... hindi pala.
I also ask the electrician to check if something could have caused it. Wala naman nakita and so far the new bulbs are still ok.
Ang mali ko is never thinking the possibility of all 3 lights going out. BTW hindi ko na pinaayos ang 3rd brake light, DIY ko na lang iyon. The 2 bulbs cost minimal, pero the flat rate initial service charge is higher. Pero siguro gas + wizards will likely cost the same thing. Even the electrician thought it was wiring or the switch, buti he tested the bulbs too.
Anyway share ko lang ang experience ko baka it might save someone the trouble and money. Check the bulbs even the possibility of all lights going out is very slim, parang lotto ang possibility. Sana nanalo na lang ako sa lotto.
thanks for the replies guys , just a loose connection sa may connector near the switch, it was a fun and learning experience, now i know where is the switch of the break lights is and yung tail light bulbs pala 2 ang filament, one lits up pag on yung park lights and both if you pressed on the brake hehehehe. salamat ulit
Just an addition to this thread, the 87-92 Corolla's brake light circuit works slightly different. Unlike most cars that work like aRChiVe had described, above Corolla's bulb uses only the more powerful one of the two filaments when lighting the brakelights. In other words, the other (low power)filament shut off when the brakes are applied. This was really cool because if the brake light filaments were all out, the driver behind will still be warned of the car's braking action because the tailights would ALL GO OUT when the brakes where applied. This was more attention-catching than if the brake lights simply refused to light up while the tailights kept staying on when braking.
