    Hi,

I am new to tsikot. I have a new altis 1.6G A/T and was planning to change my headlamp to HID (low beam only). First, Hoping you guys could help me out with the following:

    1. I need to know the terms used and what they are.
    -reflectors
    -projectors

    2. Toyota has 5000K, 6000K, 8000K for me choose (this includes ballasts). I researched their differences. Wanna know your opinion as well on the best Kelvin rating to choose.

    3. What is the stock headlamp of my car?

    4. Is it ready to be fitted with HID? Or I have to purchase other stuffs (projector?) other than the HID bulb and ballasts.

Thanks in advance for your help!

    Hi and Welcome!

you can start at HID FAQ: http://tsikot.yehey.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20763

I have bad communication skill pasensya na in advance.

    1. reflector headlights: most cars in our roads use reflector headlights. 90% siguro...

    example of reflector headlights:

rectangle or not.... crystalized or not, these are reflector types.

    Projector Headlights

they are distinquished through their "crystal ball" look.

projector have better cutoff than halogens. a standard stock halogen car will never have a HID fitted. "only in the philippines" local supplier itself does something illegal in U.K or U.S. The Vios xXx is an example...

    comparison of halogen vs projector

example of Reflector type fitted with projector:

    2. the more colorful, the less visible...

    3. si sir S.Q may HID sa altis yan... hehe...

    4. yes, it is ready. it is a reflector type. but it does not require you to use projector. Altis has seperate low and high beams. the chances of un-glaring other motorist are better than a headlight with both low and high beams.

this is where the glare starts. when the low beam is too bright that the cutoff is not capable to cut the hi-areas light. while projectors are very capable. see faq thread...

but I have seen an altis that glares really bad too. fortuners... worst... kahit seperate low/high na. so you have to be sensitive. try your low beam on a very dark environment. step away 40 meters and look at it. imagine if you are the incoming motorist to your car. kung glare is too much, try nudging it a bit...

if it was me, I would invest on a salpak projector headlight. a peace of mind for my part. I hear mega art auto has projector headlight for altis.

    happy responsible driving!

Start with 5.....but first ask yourself if you really need HID's.

    + 1

In my exp, much better pa ang All weather bulbs like Narva / Bosch na halogens kesa sa HID.

    Thanks!

    1. How much are Projector type headlights for the Altis and where to buy them (recommended shops)?

    2. I know 1.8V / 2.0V are on HID. Just do not know if they are on projector type. If so, was hoping if Toyota are selling them so I can fit them to my 1.6G.

Additional question: What are "angel eyes" headlights? (or is it just another term for the the projector type). And OEM?

nabasa ko noon sa website sa mega art auto may projector headlights sila for a lot of cars including altis. I am not sure if this is the right address, down na kasi yung website nila: 123 don manuel st., brgy sto. domingo quezon city tel nos. 749 1044, 742-2965 and 414-2546.

altis never had a stock on HID. unless kung new camry na. Toyota selling HID is illegal in U.K/U.S.

    ito yung angel eyes:

it's a honda halogen fitted with projector and angel eyes.

    projector retrofit with angel eyes:

btw, may point po sila sir ethanp at jmpet626. HID will most likely fail you on rains. worst, if the hid kit is bad, it will fail you every night because kina-kain lang yung light niya.

compare the glare and the light they throw at the road...

The previous generation 1.8G and current 1.8V and 2.0V models come with stock HID. Although they use reflectors, these are really meant for HID. As far as I know, they use different reflectors from models that only come with Halogen head lights.

if they are U.S. or U.K DOT approved, then no doubt it's a 100% fail free design... but parang philippines and thailand lang yung stock HID eh...

seen an Altis that glares really bad eh... really bad...

kaya nga if you have poor visibility at night then you shouldnt be driving at night in the first place. di ba? this is just my opinio.. i dnt want to argue.. but i think you do get my point that 90% of cars with HIDs dont use it to see better at night..anyways it all good. just my opinion.. peace..

It would be better to correct their eyesight rather than high beaming other motorist. Opinion ko lang po.

Most of them really don't have poor night visibility problem, otherwise they would not be driving at night if they had that physical condition.

i dont want to argue too.

back to topic: hte altis's low beam reflector produces a decent throw on a HID bulb.

just use 6000k or below para clean stock look.

I'm guilty dyan. I want to use HID for porma. I'd like to use that projector retrofits someday. and hope it will look like this:

for majority of HID users naman. 70% hindi talaga maliwanag sa daan ang HID nila. maliwanag lang sa mukha. just look at the pic I posted. unless the light temp is 4300k.

Maybe the Altis you saw came with an aftermarket HID kit. I've seen a lot of Altis with stock HIDs and they don't cause much glare and they illuminate the road well. BTW, a lot of cars come with HID as stock even without projectors which is similar to the Altis. (New Honda Accord, Mitsubishi Outlander, Mitsubishi Fuzion, Honda Civic 2.0) Their beam may not be as clean as stock HIDs with projectors but they are considerably brighter than their halogen counterparts.

Based on my experience, the 8000k is the "coolest" loking HID IMO.

Provides great illumination. (low beam only on our 1st gen altis. 1.8 G)

I cant compare the 6000k on 8000k since i didn't have the chance to own a 6000k HID. but 8000k is still visible in the rain IMO.

that means it's not a 100% hid fail free design. well I hope all those stock hid cars has safe throw. in fairness yung Vios xXx kahit hindi seperate ang low-high beam. the hid glare is minimal. but marami din latest Vios with horrible glare. like this vios:

8000k maybe the coolest looking HID for those after porma lang. But personally, I like 3000, 4300 and 6000k HID. 4300 and 3000k being the most functional as they give the best illumination. I've seen a lot of 8000k hid and I find them very dim.
