A new member here......and I need Late this year, I hope to have my SRRV (Retirement Visa) completed and wish to ship my 1996 Lexus LS 400 to the Phil......to reduce non-related advice, I do understand that it will require some major import tax fee donations to the LTO/others and that much less expensive cars are there...... I have spent time in Manila at the Toyota dealer and Lexus dealer, I have researched the best unleaded gas for the 4.0 V8 to use, etc., etc., However, my question is this: 1. Is it hard to get coverage for +10 year old car? 2. What is a very good company to use for full coverage?

    1. It is not hard to get coverage for a 20 year old car. Subject to inspection.

    2. Toyota is Japanese so go for a Japanese Insurer.

Thanks for the response...... Since car insurance in the US is not based on car brands, I have no idea where to find such an insurance company in the Phil. Any suggestions for name or location of a Japanese car insurer?

It may not be that hard but you wont get too many options. Many insurers do not accept units that are already more than 10 years old. Although they will still insure your unit if it's already insured with them the previous years or if it's part of a fleet. Another stumbling block is the fact that it's foreiign made. Insurers are hesitant to accept imported units due to the scarcity of parts. However, if you do find an insurer for your unit, chances are the premium's gonna be a bit higher than usual..

Most insurers especially those in the top half of the rankings are reliable. It would also be beneficial if you could find a licensed agent who can serve your needs professionally. Just like in the US, insurance companies here are also not based on car brands or makes..

What you can do is to give the details of your car here plus the estimated fair market value of the unit and other coverage that you might want and ask them to PM you for their quotation. That way, you will have a good idea how much your premium would be..
