Is it normal for my BRAND NEW 1.6 CHEVROLET OPTRA LS (Automatic) to consume 4kms/ltr city driving here in CEBU? Traffic here in Cebu is not as bad as in Manila. Isn't it odd?

fuel consumption usually improves after your 4th tank or possibly after the break-in period.

something doesn't make sense...a 1.6 consuming that much fuel? why is that? i am assuming it has all the modern features like EFI etc.

Its engine and transmission are Korean if I'm not mistaken. If yes, then they lack most if not all the Japanese sophistication and innovation, thereby leading to less performance and/or fuel efficiency.

It's just that engine and tranny combination. It's pretty bad but not hopeless. Most owners get between 6.5-7 after break in, so it's HOPEFULLY not going to stay that way.

By the way, read your manual CAREFULLY and consult your dealer, AFAIK, the Optra won't work well on lower octane gas. If there is something wrong, don't give the dealer an excuse to void your warranty because of "bad gas".

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

Optra really has crappy fuel mileage.

Since you're in CEbu, most of the drives i reckon are relatively short as compared to Metro Manila driving and there's a lot of stop-and-go... bad for fuel economy.

I have an optra 1.6LS A/T. if you drive aggressively you will get 4 or even 3km/L. i have seen our driver getting this fuel economy when he uses my optra. But if you drive conservatively and efficiently ( means no aircon, really slow acceleration, minimal braking) i can get around 7-8km/L. Mind you i could get almost 6km/L with our 01' expedition XLT 4x2, and thats with a 4.6L V8. I reckon if i drive the expedition efficiently and our driver uses the Optra. i could probably best his fuel economy.

LOL the optra 1.6 should be banned simply for fuel inefficiency when the oil crisis becomes critical and fuel rations are inevitable..hehehe seriously a 1.6 as bad as a V8..nice job chevrolet!

i think Chevy is trying to associate their name with big SUV's including the SUV poor fuel economy.
