Saw this in the Nov. 7 issue of Phil. Daily Inquirer... the DENR has signed an agreement with Senbel Chemicals and Petroline Resources Inc. for the construction of an alternative biodiesel fuel facility at its Visayas Avenue office. The article (actually, its a DENR "Clean Air Month" supplement) says biodiesel is one of the best substitutes for petroleum diesel in the market... it is biodegradable and non-toxic, and may be used without any modification to the diesel engine.

best of all, it is claimed to reduce CO2 emissions by 78% and CO emissions by 50%, as well as reduce sulfates by 100%! When the facility is in place, all diesel-powered vehicles of the DENR will use said biodiesel to comply with the modern emission standards.

sana gawin nilang open to the public din yung fuel facility nila. anybody here have any experience in using this so-called biodiesel? any caveats or things we should be aware of before jumping on the bio-bandwagon?

also, is biodiesel the same as coco-diesel, which i read about in a thread on the old kotse board?

found a web site on the topic, http://www.biodiesel.org , but am still not too clear about it since it applies to biodisel use in America only. Inputs naman dyan kung meron kayong nalalaman tungkol sa biodiesel na ito. i'm really interested in it if it will help clean up our air-- grabe na talaga yung smog sa metro manila.
