nag fill up ako last night.. price of diesel is now at P27.75 while unleaded is P29.55 na lang yata. In most shell stations now.. halos P2.00 na lang ang gap ng diesel and gasoline. 3-4 yrs ago, the gap was P4.00 per liter. if this trend continues.. baka mag-abot na sila ng presyo.
now the question is... would you still stick to diesel/diesel rides if diesel and gasoline are priced equally? or a more challenging question is... if we try to push for very high quality diesel (very low sulfur content), which would result in a diesel that's propably more expensive than gasoline.. would you still stick to diesel? dyan masusubok ang loyalty ng dieselclub

diesels are not the major cause of pollution. gas fumes are deadlier than diesel fumes. all-in-all it's the carelessness of people that pollutes our air, etc.

I have a feeling my next ride will be gas fed. anyway i will forever love diesel vehicles

another one of those diesel myths.

the pollution caused by improperly tuned / maintained engines (whether petrol or diesel) is almost the same. with gasoline, you just don't see the HC, CO & NOx being generated. try sniffing the end of you muffler just for an hour and you'll know what I mean.

diesel in the world market now is about $61 per barrel while premium gasoline is about $53 per barrel. there will come a time (3-4 months time) that diesel will be much more expensive than gasoline. The diesel in the phil is only euro 2 compliant while euro 4 diesel is being used in europe. Thats why I have doubt the CRDI engines sold here in the phil might have some problem in the injector pump if wer use euro2 compliant diesel.

but diesel engines have higher fuel mileage dba? although if diesel will be more expensive than petrol then mdyo pantay na

Dun na lang actually magkakatalo ang gasoline and diesel.. fuel efficiency of the engines.

chemically speaking, mas mataas ang heating value (BTU/liter) ng diesel vs. gasoline. meaning, if you burn liter of diesel, it would generate more heat - therefore more energy, compared to heating the same amount of gasoline. the challenge now is how to convert that built in thermal energy advantage to mechanical energy. in one estimate I read, sabi nila, mas efficient daw ang diesel engine, since it converts daw 30% of the locked in potential energy of diesel to mechanical energy. of course, the gasoline engine designers would not be far behind. so kung magpantay ang cost ng diesel and gasoline, the battle will be on designing more efficient, less polluting engine platforms.

Yes, I will still stick to diesel: Because of the following personal reasons:
    1. High quality diesel - I'm all for it, at least I'm sure my ride is good for the environment. The fact that I'm using biodiesel makes it already more expensive nowadays.
    2. Simpler to maintain.
    3. Higher mileage.
    4. Load-carrying capability of diesel engines.
    6. First ride ko diesel; learned to drive using diesel.
    7. Safety - I would not be tempted to drag race and show off. lolz... kotse kasi konting tapak lang sa pedal eh zooommm!
    8. Tropical weather - happy ang diesel ko sa init (but of course, not too much!)

I can especially relate to these points. Diesel power pa rin!

ako din, sa diesel ako if in case diesel prices catch up with gas prices. more mileage with diesel :D I think in europe halos pareho ata yun price ng diesel at gas.

Mmm... sa Shell Macapagal yung unleaded nasa 29.19 diesel is around 27 something, di ko masyado napansin. the gap is closing in fast sana mag roll back pa yung gas

Well all of our rides are petrol based so I guess that answers your question.

nakakasad.

How sad...

    WBR,
korek ito... and hindi rin agad agad na magsisilipat ang mga jeepneys to gas engines.. una shempre wait and see (and perhaps in denial) na mas mataas nga talaga ang diesel vs gas.. 2nd, hindi rin ganung kadali ang magpalit ng makina since libo libo rin ang gagastusin in 1 shot... kung uutang naman sila ng pambili ng engine (na surplus) na pampalit sa current engines nila eh.. mabibigatan din sila magbayad sa utang nila...

eventually they will have to learn to accept that there are other (probable) sources of livelihood other than driving around jeepneys... if this eventually leads to the phaseout of jeepneys.. ewan ko na lang...

sa tingin ko, nakasanayan natin na mas mura ang diesel dahil na rin sa subsidized ng govt since only old people know when (baka nga sila din di nila alam kung kelan nagsimula eh)... however, i think it makes sense...sa US and even China... karamihan ng cars ay gas fed... yung mga malalaking trucks.. meaning for cargo and all... tska lang diesel... maybe its because of the torque generated by diesel engines... max torque at a lower rpm compared to gas engines... mas practical...

now sa atin.. since sinanay tayo na mas mura ang diesel.. we already took it for granted.. ngayong nagpapantay na ang presyo... medyo hindi tayo sanay.. and i think dadating talaga ang time na mas mahal pa ang diesel..

i read somewhere that it's because of india.. nag pass daw sila ng clean air act and masyado daw mahigpit yung requirement for diesel and their own refineries aren't yet upto spec.. so panay din ang import nila ng diesel... until maka upgrade ng specs ang mga refineries ng india to their laws.. i guess tataas pa or mag maintain ang prices ng diesel in the world market..

im still happy with my diesel, so ill probably stick with it. generally, work horse kasi nga talaga ang diesel engined autos e. so depende rin sa gamit siguro.

diesel fast approaching the price of gasoline
