The first thing that Volkswagen engineers told Automobile Central Enterprise, the new Philippine distributor of the German carmaker, was that the company cannot sell gasoline-fueled variants in our market. That's because the engineers, after conducting tests and spot checks, found that some of our petrol fuels contain a harmful ingredient.

"They found manganese in some petrol products," revealed ACE sales and marketing head Arnel Doria during a media roundtable at the Manila Polo Club in Makati today. "They use manganese to achieve high octane ratings. It's a substitute for lead and can be damaging to some engine components. Lead has already been banned. Manganese, like lead, also causes ailments that involve the nervous system."

"We were disappointed when we were told we couldn't bring in our gasoline models," ACE president John Philip Orbeta said. "They said our gasoline fuels are bad."

On the other hand, the engineers cleared our diesel fuels.

"The surprise here is that our petrol is bad and our diesel is good, contrary to what we've always believed," Doria added.

To be perfectly clear, the ACE executives pointed out that only the petrol fuels of the smaller oil companies were found to contain manganese. Apparently, the gasoline products of the major brands are okay.

"The major brands submitted to us a certification stating that their fuels do not have manganese," Orbeta shared.

Ultimately, Volkswagen will sell gasoline variants in our market after this issue with petrol fuels has been properly dealt with.

So, how come the gasoline models of brands that belong to the Volkswagen Group--Audi, Porsche, Lamborghini and Bentley, all of which are distributed by PGA Cars--are being sold here without this issue ever having been brought up?

"That's their problem, not ours," the ACE bosses answered matter-of-factly.

Cheaper to find an excuse for ISUZU to keep on selling their AUV dinosaur without spending anything to improve it's ancient engine.

    QUESTION:

if small players are only involved in this "dirty gasoline" thing, why would VW would not want to selltheir petrol based cars in the philippines, considering they are european car (is supposed) and will only target the upper/middle middle class of peepz which mostly considers gassing up at the major three.

second, considering that the small players are selling really fuels with manganese how much market share they represent considering the big three.

i think the logic is twisted. hehehehe.

Sabi sa article, bakit daw mga audi, bentley, porsche etc. Di nagkakaproblema pagdating sa gas.

    Isa lang sagot nyan.

The owners of those exotics dont gas up on small-time gas companies. Big 3 yan most of the time. You wont see an exotic gas up at jetti, total, metrogas etc. e. Usual nyan Petron Blaze 100. They even hardly gas up at Caltex, mga small time companies pa kaya?

Most japanese cars don't use direct-injection gasoline engines. VW's line-up nowadays is almost exclusively direct injection.

The owners of high-tech direct-injection motors DO have problems with our gasoline if the cars aren't used regularly.

If one has a more than a million a pop car, will he/she just load gas at Flying V?

If Peugeot can survive here this time around, I think VW will fare a bit better.

Sir Niky, so is it safe to say that if the car's engine is not direct-injection, safe gamitin ang mga gas na may manganese as octane booster?

I rightly don't know. I don't know what manganese will do to the fuel system in the long run.

baka naman Sir they are certain of the quality of the cars they are selling.

in short, CDkring warranty lang pala meron yung 5 years 5 days replacement warranty lang pala. hehehehehe

My assesment is VW will probably flop

lets check each of their cars:

Jetta: 1.3 million peso focus/impreza/lancer rival, slower than all the cars I previously mentioned and at its price..... still has a manual tranny
Tiguan: Ford Explorer money for Ford Escape size
    Touran: ehhhhhhh
Touareg: It has priced itself with the LC200 or more premium but smaller rivals such the X3 or the Lexus thingy, and there is also the Evoque

This is a bit of a PR stunt to gain media attention

When someone asks you: What car do you have? your answer would sadly be "VW"
