A fun run sponsored by the DOE from Taguig to Lipa and back showed that Euro Diesel engines performed the best in terms of consumption beating out its Jap counterparts.

the BMW 530d logged in a staggering 22kms/liter while the BMW X5 Diesel logged in 12.4kms/liter. The Jap SUV's logged in at an average 10kms/liter. Note that the torque reading of both the 530d sedan and X5 SUV (SAV?) approaches the 500NM mark! Both already use the 2nd generation common rail direct injection technology.

We were invited to attend this fun run but we didn't go. kala ko, fuel economy run using biodiesel. Sumali pala mga european diesels.

super advanced talaga mga european diesels. I read in an article somewhere, sa Europe daw, when they call a diesel engine a 4 liter engine, it does not refer to engine displacement. rather it refers to the number of liters of diesel that it will consume over 100 kilometers. so, a 4L engine has a mileage of 25km/liter, a 5L, 20 km/liter, etc. etc. pinakamatindi yung experimental car ng volkswagen, it ran 100 km on slightly more than 1 liter of diesel fuel.

palagay ko, medyo malayo pa tayo don, our diesel quality is not as good and as clean as the european diesel. matindi computerization ng fuel injection ng diesel engines ng euro cars, mas pino yung fuel/air mist, mas less tolerant sa dumi mga fuel injectors ng mga yan.

In the last issue of Car & Driver, they tested the diesel versions of the PT Cruiser, E320, Audi A8 and Volkswagen Touareg.

There was even a sidebar on Biodiesel.
