Is Gasoline Perishable (Napapanis)?

Hi guys, I'm a new car owner and I have a 95 Civic ESi and I noticed something after filling up my tank a week ago. After reaching the halfway mark, my consumption seems to be getting stronger! It seems like napapanis ung gasolina?

I seldom use my car, I only use it during gimiks with my friends. Here are my questions :

1. Does the quality of gasoline worsen once it is stuck in the tank for more than a week? OR

2. The needle of the fuel gauge in my ESi drops a bit faster when it reach the halfway mark?

I'm just a new car owner so I'm sorry if my questions are quite idiotic.. hehe..

fuel does get stale. both gasoline and diesel go bad if stored for a long time specially if vented. gasoline tends to develop gum and varnish (usually seen around carburetor openings). the smell changes, the consistency changes, the volatility changes and so is ignitability. but if the fuel is around a few months, it should still be good. diesel fuel tends to grow molds and algae if stored for extended period of time specially in open containers. if the vehicle is not regularly used, you can add fuel stabilizer in the fuel tank

Based on my experience:

E10 blended unleaded gasoline goes stale enough to notice in 3 or 4 weeks.

Regular unleaded gasoline goes stale in 5 months.

this is actually true. the fuel gauge is not linear kasi hindi rin "perfect" ang shape ng gas tank. it funnels/gets smaller sa lower part. the gauge measures the fuel level, not really the volume of gas left.

so in actuality, when the fuel level gets to the point na lumiliit ang gas tank, same pa rin consumption mo. unfortunately mas mabilis ang pagbaba ng level kasi mas maliit ang volume na nagagamit niya per notch.

Ahhh.. I see.. Kasi from the top of the fuel gauge until the halfway mark, I'm satisfied with my fuel consumption. I think I get 8 - 9 km/L. Pero once it reaches half, parang lumalakas talaga ang consumption. So I'm really confused on how to measure my car's fuel consumption.

Another thing, if I'm only using the car let's say 3 times a week, is it advisable to load it up to full tank or not?

try filling it up to 1/3 lang. Sayang din naman kung ganun ka infrequent ang usage mo.

Mas madali kasi yan yung naka-lift car mo so ask for professional help. kahit gas stations lang na may lifter pwede na.

Fuel filter pinag-uusapan dyan (pero ok pa ba air filter mo?) plus pa-check mo na rin strainer at baka meron kotse mo, palinisan or plaitan na rin if needed. Madali lang yan basta may lifter. Pero bago mo ipagawa, make sure na medyo kunti na lang laman ng tangke mo para hindi mahirapan yung gagawa. HTH

Sir go to the honda cars thread at malamang alam na nila sagot dyan. Hindi ko kabisado cost ng filters ng Honda. hehe. Or search ka sa upper right search menu. meron nyan, kunting tiyaga lang sa pag-research.

Replace mo na lang para safe ka. Just a suggestion.

and i haven't had my gas tank cleaned in any way... since i got the car 13 years ago.. and since it's my coding car, a full tank can last for six weeks..
so far, no problem.
i think i'll wait for something to happen. who knows, it might last another 13 years.

Kung hindi yan E10, yes kaya yung 6 weeks. Tagal na ah, regular maintenance and fuelling in a proven clean station will do wonders talaga.

Id have my tank cleaned and filters replaced professionally if I were you. But not because of 'napapanis' na gas but in 13 years' time, madami ng dumi malamang nasa tangke mo -- kalawang, ipis, latak, etc.

I agree with the guy who said the shape of the tank tapers toward the bottom kasi I also had a civic from that era. I dont think your usage is small enough to warrant concern of fuel expiration. If I were you I'd just fill it up with non-E10 fuel until automatic most of the time though.

Rather that worry about the aging of the gas left in the tank, I'd be more worried about the moisture from a half empty tank causing damage. Leaving a tank fuller leaves less space for air and less chance of moisture causing damage including kalawang in the tank. My .02 -- but worth 20 petot.
