    Mga Sir,

Corolla Bigbody 2E 1.3 carbed engine ko model 1995xl.
I measured my Fuel Consumption (FC) using the full tank method.
    For City driving = 5.55Km/Li
    For Highway driving = 7.33Km/Li

Any suggestions on how I can increase my FC?
I have already done the following:
    1. Cleaned my card with carb cleaner (sprayed inside while high revving)
    2. Changed my fuel filter
    3. Oil Changed, replaced oil filter
    4. Replaced high tension wires (thick diameter type)
    5. Replaced spark plugs (4 split tip type)
    6. Changed PCV valve

I dont know if what I've done so far relates to increasing my FC, but if you have any effective ideas, it would definitely be appreciated.

    Thanks and regards...

Has the carb been tuned or overhauled? That is not normal. You've also checked your driving style (shift points, heavy foot? heavy load?)....

    Sir,

Di naman po ako heavy in the pedal and kami lang ng wife koload nung car, both our body weight is on average as well

The carb was not tuned or overhauled yet, I just sprayed carb cleaner..

Would overhauling and tuning the carb make the big difference?
How much would it cost to have it done?
Or can I Do it Myself? I like to learn new things po kasi..

    Mga Sir,

Would you have any idea how much a carburetor overhaul and engine timing would cost?
How much time does it take, 1 whole day?

    Salamat po sa reply..

    Wow! Mababa yan Bro.

I sold my 1993 XE 1.3 na but same kami ng FC ni adapilado.

Yup check your timing also. Baka either naka Retard or Advance. Dapat 10degrees lang as per the book, but you can try 12degrees for a little bit more power on the pedal. Either 10 or 12 degrees timing, your Right foot is always in control.

Relax lang sa apak, try to limit your apak range to atleast within 1inch and just let the engine do the work...Your 1.3 engine will not become a 2.0 engine even if apakan mo ng todo yang pedal mo so properly ready and anticipate the slope of the roads para hindi pilit ang makina.

Another thing, ano na reading ng mileage mo?
Is there oil on your sparkplugs and tailpipe?

Baka may engine compression issue = overhaul?

    ===========

Eto maintenance routine ko when I still had my XE...

Change oik every 3k kms reading with Toyota oil 20w-50 (made by Caltex) = Php 155 per liter, Toyota Denso sparkplugs = Php 55 each (change sparkplugs every change oil din)

Correct aircon idling timing din pa check mo

    Sir,

    -> 197, 000 mileage.
-> Magkano po kaya ang pa correct ng timing? and how long would it take?

    Maraming salamat Sirs,

I'll go ahead and do these suggestions.
-Timing siguro try ko 10 or 12
    -check the gas/Air mixture
    -Carb overhaul

    Regards..

WOW mataas! hehehe. Mine ran 130k kms before I sold it to my uncle. But before I sold it, I had the piston rings and overhauling gasket kit, and ALL oil seals + timing belt replaced....all with original Toyota parts. I replaced those parts at the 100k kms reading cuz I had a little oil on one spark plug and the tail pipe....so to prevent a major disaster, inunahan ko na.

---- Orig Toyota PISTON Rings = Php 3k ata?
---- Orig Toyota Overhauling gasket kit = Php 3k din ata?

    ============================

-> 197, 000 mileage. --- ever changed any internal engine part, pisont rings etc?

-> Wala naman oil sa spark plug (brown color) --- solid brown or medyo may orange? a good brurn should be somewhat orangie or bronze

--- black is ok, kasi black talaga ang carbons. not sure if its rich based on your description. have the timing and carb checked

--- ohhhh XL pala so walang RPM. Have it checked with a timing light at any gas station repair bay. Pag may RPM dpat 800RPM ang reading ng engine idling without aircon on ----- I don't know if there is a machine to check the RPM of a car without RPM meter ah. Pero based on the sound and vibration the correct RPM can be estimated nman. ----- is our car vibrating severly or parang kinakapos hininga if the aircon is on? If yes mababa ang idling mo, for sure somewhere 500RPM below pag ganun. Have it adjusted but not to the extent that it sounds like the gas pedal is being stepped-on.

-> Magkano po kaya ang pa correct ng timing? and how long would it take? --- based on your question it seems you have never had your engine timing checked. Hahaha!!! Patay! That will only cost you around Php200 and will take you less than 3mins to correct

    Sir,
    Maraming salamat po sa reply,
Second hand ko po kasi binili ito car, pero my napalitan na daw sa loob ng engine, timing belt was also replaced.
Try ko i pacheck ung timing pero baka this weekend pa, office ours kasi ako.
And yun po pa overhaul ng carburetor, any idea how much it would cost? and time it would take to do the job?
More power po sa site na ito, very helpful!

I had my carb overhauled also before on my XE. Labor will cost Php 350-400. You will also need a carb cleaner, bili ka nalang sa ACE, yung 3M. 1 can will cost Php 150 siguro. It will take 30mins lang.

Just make sure the mech knows how to dismantle and return the parts of the carb. May mga washers and gaskets yan na maliliit. Also monitor him while he is doing it atleast you will see that he knows what he is doing Bro.

Is your car still stock when you got it?

Boss check niyo din kung may slipping clutch na kayo, i believe it also affects fuel consumption.
