LONDON (AFP) - Despite being the world's fourth-biggest producer of crude oil, Iran's lack of refineries means insufficient petrol is made in the country -- a situation that led to unrest this week.
Iran, which is also the second-biggest producer in the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries, is plagued by a global problem of limited refining capacity.
The Islamic republic produces 44.5 million litres of or petrol, or gasoline, a day -- which is not enough to meet demand of 79 million litres.

This is weird.does this mean they will start using nuclear power?

That just shows how MISMANAGED Iran has become over the past few decades (since the Revolution).

I mean, they are tying to go nuclear and wasting precious money instead of trying to harness the energy source that is readily available to them.

Venezuela might also follow this trend someday since they have limited know-how on how to extract & process tar crude oil if ever they pushed though with a 100% nationalization of their oil wells.

looks like... but even before they can finish their nuclear project Israel will hit them first.

They need more investors, but the rest of the world is jittery about Iran's current regime.

But who knows? Maybe the Chinese or the Russians will send more investment money their way.
