    eto pa nakita ko.

    WHAT IS BIODIESEL

Biodiesel is the name for a variety of ester-based oxygenated fuels made from soybean oil or other vegetable oils or animal fats. The concept of using vegetable oil as a fuel dates back to 1895 when Dr. Rudolf Diesel developed the first diesel engine to run on vegetable oil. Diesel demonstrated his engine at the World Exhibition in Paris in 1900 using peanut oil as fuel.

    Key Advantages of Biodiesel:

    1. Biodiesel is the only alternative fuel that runs in any conventional, unmodified diesel engine. It can be stored anywhere that petroleum diesel fuel is stored.

    2. Biodiesel can be used alone or mixed in any ratio with petroleum diesel fuel. The most common blend is a mix of 20% biodiesel with 80% petroleum diesel, or "B20."

    3. The lifecycle production and use of biodiesel produces approximately 80% less carbon dioxide emissions, and almost 100% less sulfur dioxide. Combustion of biodiesel alone provides over a 90% reduction in total unburned hydrocarbons, and a 75-90% reduction in aromatic hydrocarbons. Biodiesel further provides significant reductions in particulates and carbon monoxide than petroleum diesel fuel. Biodiesel provides a slight increase or decrease in nitrogen oxides depending on engine family and testing procedures. Based on Ames Mutagenicity tests, biodiesel provides a 90% reduction in cancer risks.

    4. Biodiesel is 11% oxygen by weight and contains no sulfur. The use of biodiesel can extend the life of diesel engines because it is more lubricating than petroleum diesel fuel, while fuel consumption, auto ignition, power output, and engine torque are relatively unaffected by biodiesel.

    5. Biodiesel is safe to handle and transport because it is as biodegradable as sugar, 10 times less toxic than table salt, and has a high flashpoint of about 300 F compared to petroleum diesel fuel, which has a flash point of 125 F.

    6. Biodiesel can be made from domestically produced, renewable oilseed crops such as soybeans.

    7. Biodiesel is a proven fuel with over 30 million successful US road miles, and over 20 years of use in Europe.

    8. When burned in a diesel engine, biodiesel replaces the exhaust odor of petroleum diesel with the pleasant smell of popcorn or french fries.

maganda nga suriin itong biodiesel. sabi ni Alfalfameister sa lumang kotse forum, susubukan daw nya yung locally produced biodiesel sa isang strada pickup, pero di na sya nag-post ng evaluation doon.

does anyone else have info on this alternative fuel source???

di rin ako maka comment dito. theoretical lang din maisasagot ko e. personally, I don't feel comfortable putting in used or raw vegetable oil sa diesel engine ko. why? marami kasing impurities sa raw vegetable oil lalo na sa used veggie oil that could gum up your engine. saka rancid na ang used vegetable oil e, some of the materials present in it may not be combustible anymore.
pwede pa yung by-product ng vegetable oil, yung biodiesel which, incidentally is now being tested by the Dept of Energy. Busy sila ngayon trying to finalize the specs of the Philippine version of the European standards for biodiesel. Our lab is involved in doing the interlaboratory tests, (chemical tests lang, not the engine tests which is being handled by DoE).

so it's not surprising that people are now looking at vegetable oil as possible alternative to diesel fuel. for more reading materials related to this thread... read on na lang.

pwede daw gamitin provided merong mga modifications.

veggie oil should work fine. problem is getting that additive done right... sabi nila kailangan pa i-stand for a few weeks yung mixture.

opponents bound to launch a FUD campaign on this would be the local oil companies (lost revenue) and the government (lost revenue -- taxes). maybe we could try it out ourselves! i have a tired old 4D56 that is about ready to retire.

better kung cocodiesel na lang i-try natin. you'd risk major damage sa 4D56 mo without the mods mentioned in the links i mentioned above. tingnan natin if cocodiesel can revive your old tired 4d56. simple lang naman test, just blend 1%-5% by volume of cocodiesel to regular diesel. then if you like have the emissions checked, before and after (magastos nga lang to). record your mileage na rin siguro, before and after. at kung gusto mo pa, i pacheck mo na rin power output, before and after. or mas matipid, judge mo na lang thru power output when you drive it.

    iniisip ko lang...

bakit tayo natatakot na maglagay ng cooking oil sa diesel engine?

diesel is one of the lowest levels of refinement in fuel, and cooking oil is at one of the highest levels. perhaps higher than even the premium petrols -- because it's meant to come in contact with food meant for human consumption. natural lang na mas malinis ang cooking oil sa kahit anong gasolina na binibili natin.
