    update on biodiesel/low sulfur diesel

Umattend ako nung nag-dynamometer testing ng Biodiesel/LSD (low sulfur diesel) fuel blends last October 15. This was held in a testing facility (name of test facility w/held) somewhere in Balintawak. This was supervised by DOE and attended by DENR, DOST, people from the academe, manufacturers of biodiesel (yes, senbel and chemrez were represented), CAMPI, Isuzu and Toyota also sent their reps, plus yung mga fuel distributors like Total Fina, Sea Oil yata or Unioil andon din, etc. and of course, 2 reps from our company.

The following fuel blends were tested on a dynamometer machine
    -Low sulfur diesel
    -1% biodiesel
    -2% biodiesel
    -5% biodiesel

the dyno test engine was an Isuzu C190. Power and torque were determined from 1600 RPM up to 4300 RPM. Tapos meron ding real-time testing ng emissions. eto pictures nung test dyno machine

Results: power and torque improves by 2 -3% overall in the whole RPM range. Emission tests were disregarded, di kasi well controlled yung sampling ng exhaust gases. sa report na nakuha ko, they will retest emissions daw pero I'm quite sure na mas lower yung meron CME.

So, this test only validates our observation na lumalakas talga engine w/ biodiesel addition even * 1%. shempre depende rin siguro sa kundisyon ng makina mo yan.

bilib ako don sa Isuzu C190. it was glowing red-hot when they were revving it at 4300 rpm for about 5-10 minutes ata yon. :whoa: :whoa: :whoa: kaya pala tinawag na redline RPM, literally, mamumula makina mo like a red-hot iron. pero di pa rin bumigay yung makina considering na almost 8 hours yung testing (8 fuel samples kasi yung na-test, about 30 minutes/test tapos may pahinga in between).

    rsnald nag-uulat lang po :D

2 to 3 %... that won't be noticeable in everyday conditions, nice to know it's there though

At least alam nating yung improvement in terms of number and not just by feeling sa mga gumagamit. Good info.

rsnald: hanep!nice info. Sa in-house testing ng Senbel ganun din ang results. I think the main reason why anyone should use biodiesel is the total reduction in harmful emissions. If you pass by PCA(Phil COco Authority) sa may Commonwealth you 'd see a big sign about coco diesel, old name and the push of the government for this alternative fuel.

nice info so totoo pala observation ng mga gumamit na......ma umpisahan na nga pag gamit......di ba inaamag yun biodiesel kasi yun nakuha ko nung fun run sa cabinet pa ........check ko nga baka nagamit na sa fried chicken..........

    Great info!
If i remember correctly, Senbel's own test results show that the biggest improvement in torque and power came at 2%, rather than at 5% or 20%.
They confirm what we feel- a better running engine by just upgrading the fuel. Much better than any other additive!

addition info lang dun sa post ko... nakalimutan ko banggitin andun din pala mga taga PCA (Phil coconut authority) - they were the ones who initiated this CME thing 2 years ago. kakahiya naman I forgot them :D
andun din pala Caltex, Shell (?), COCAP, Filcar at marami pang iba. I also met Mr. Sandy Santos of Senbel.

Baka nagkakahalo halo lang yung old stocks nila w/c containts higher sulfur w/ their low sulfur diesels. In due time, makukuha din nila yon. January 2004 ang deadline ng Clean Air Act for the fuel suppliers to comply w/ the low sulfur diesel requirement.

I also read from the news that Caltex will also import 100% of their fuel stocks starting December - lahat, gasoline, diesel, etc. I shu-shut down na nila refining plant nila. Shell is already importing their LSD. Petron I think will try to upgrade their facilities to cope with the nationwide demand. Right now, their capacity to produce low sulfur diesel will supply metro manila lang.

    maraming salamat sa info!..

regarding the %age where it has maximum effect... 5% lang ba??... wow.. so parang nagsasayang ako ng biodiesel ko by going b10 or b20?

power and torque-wise, optimum na yung 2%. Pero if you go higher, you're improving your emissions by lessening the more toxic gases like CO (carbon monoxide), NOX (nitrous oxide), HC's (hydrocarbons) and aromatics (cancer causing stuff). You're also improving the lubricity of your fuel blend w/c in the long run may (a big "may") lengthen the life of your engine due to less wear and tear.
So walang masama if you go higher. You're being more enviroment friendly that way. gastos ka nga lang

on-and-off gamit ko depending on availability of free supply
last use ko was last month pa, 1 gallon, loaded in 3/4 full tank. pinakamataas kong gamit, 2 liters in an almost empty tank (about 10 liters na lang laman).

ayun naman pala... ewan ko ba.. Seat of the Pants feel.. as i go higher... at the most was a 20% blend... my engine performed much better.. parang pumino ang takbo.. pero nothing exag as like having a turbo added or nagkaroon ng 20HP increase... enough to be noticeable by SOTP.

meron isang time.. i used 4L on almost empty tank.. hehee. tripping lang kasi.. eheheh

san makakabili ng chemrez biodiesel? 1% lang daw ang blend ah. :D

noteworthy: pls note that CME's (coconut methyl ester) like those manufactured by Senbel (Estrol Biodiesel) has to follow certain specifications set by the DOE, Phil. Std. Estrol Biodiesel meets EN 14214 which is one of the strictest quality guideline being enforced by EU countries like Germnay, France, etc. CME's meeting these specs can be used even as low as 1%. At this level, lubricity of blended diesels can already meet the limit of 460 micron maximum Wear Scar Diameter (WSD). Adding 1% actually reduces WSD down to 360. For better emissions at least 2% is recommended by Senbel and most car mfgs, government agencies & users. HTH
