Depends on the condition of both secondhand vehicles.
Ok lang yung 1M na price range, with warranties pa siguro yan (2006 models). Dapat may freebies yung seller

Definitely the Alterra for me!
Medyo matagtag daw ang Fortuner e. Mismong SA sa Toyota nagsabi nun ("mag-Alterra ka na lang boss").
Between the two, I'd probably get the Alterra (if you're just comparing the 4x2 variants) as it has the better engine (since the 4x2 Fortuner only gets the 2.7L VVTi & 2.5L D4D).
Though personally, I'd just consider other vehicles (including the 4x4 Fortuner) since I can't stand the looks of the Alterra (doesn't do justice to the handsome D-Max).

for that budget you could go for brand new with strada or tucson. otherwise, i'll make that a downpayment for a new 3-liter Fortuner (for power). however, please read threads re: pump issues/others on fortuner crdi engines on the first and earlier editions to serve as precaution in purchasing second hand fortuner. the issue with isuzu is still the notorious ratling sound & vibration of the engine unless your used to it...
Alterra is better in fuel economy, ride and that's about it I think... Oh yeah, the sound package.
The Fortuner is just too overrated! Get the Alterra for the reason that it's a lot rarer on the road. Better comfort and space. Consequence may be the looks though... But that's just me.

Sorry guys, I just can't help it. If I'm buying a used SUV with a 1M budget, I'd definitely buy the Land Rover Defender 110 300 Tdi '96-'97 model. You can get it at around 800-900k then use the remaining for some minor repairs and mods. You'd definitely have a head turner.
Don't mind me. I just wanted to blurt it out.
But between fortuner and alterra? 4x2? hmmm..... alterra, due to the better engine.
Fortuner definitely! The Alterra is really an eyesore to me, bibili lang ako ng Alterra kung morgue o puninarya negosyo ko, mukha kasi pang karo yung Alterra. Why not consider gen 2.5 Pajero? maybe older than both but looks better.
Thanks, sir.
Sorry, OT: Actually, just recently, somebody was selling a '96 defender 130 300Tdi double cab pick-up. I was already thinking of replacing mine with this, but the seller decided not to sell his defender anymore. Sayang.........Anyway, maybe in the near future, the seller might change his mind again.![]()
IMO, kung 4x2 sa Alterra ako. Mas malaki makina (3.0?) at mas marami toys (sounds, etc.)![]()
sa presyo ng gas na halos 7 pesos na difference sa diesel, sa alterra na. to hell with looks hehehe. kung yung 2.5 d4d ng toyota naman, baka sobrang bagal na yun compared sa 3.0 ng alterra.
