    hi guys,

for a first car which one is worth buying?

nissan lec ps 1997 for 130K
1.3 16 valve engine, power steering, power windows, centralized locking wid alarm, new tires, cool aircon, black tint, silver/grey color, approx 10km/L daw. 2nd owner na ang seller bought on 1998. 110,000 mileage.

    or

    toyota corolla 91 1.6 gl for 90K
    - don't have the specs of the car yet aside from 2nd owner din ang seller

    or

toyota corolla 97 xl for 130K
    1.3 mileage 87K, red color
    problem with aircon

-- just added.. d ko na ma-edit ung title ng thread eh.

pls advice/help me on deciding which car is worth buying and fuel efficient. yoko sumakit ang ulo ko later on.

note: newbie po ako re cars.

Go for the newer car. Pero siempre compare the conditions.

    Sentra!

Pero may mali yata sa specs mo. Kung 97 LEC, dapat power streering lang yan. Hindi stock ang power windows yan and walang power door locks. Not unless it was upgraded by the owner.

One thing against the Toyota is that it's a 16-year old car. At hindi rin stock ang power windows at door locks nyan.

the seller specifically noted na power windows daw po.

Power window and Centralized locking with alarm.

LEC PS. . . no brainer.

I used to own one and it was a very reliable car. Had not much problems as long as it was maintained properly.

I also outfitted it with central locking. Back then, there were a lot of stores that did conversion of LEC PS to power windows, which requires to change the inside door panels which they would get from the ECCS versions.

Just check the condition and make sure that the car is not an ex-taxi.

*Mguy: nissan was used primarily by the sellers wife. 2nd owner but acquired 1998. i'L try to clarify wid him about sa power windows.

walang may gusto ng 91 corolla..?

guys, i'm thinking of getting the corolla 91 primarily since it's well within my budget. maybe i can still haggle to lower the price kahit 5K lang.

the extra money 40K i will save from not buying the LEC or XL i can spend pa for fuel, maintenance and repairs - which is i'm sure will come.

pang-everyday use ko lang to-from house and office (distance approx. 12kms one way).

just hope na okei ung car mechanic ko..

mga expert tama ba ung reasoning ko?

how much is the approximate cost of:

    + minor underchassis repair
    + minor repaint
    + aircon repair

    TIA!

Set aside 20k for repairs...baka pwede na yan.

Still, ill go for Sentra. Mas mura parts.

91 is too old and it may give you a lot of headaches along the way. Not worth it for saving a few thousand pesos.

naunahan me dun sa toyota buti na lng..

now i already paid downpayment/reservation dun sa 1997 nissan lec ps maroon na nakita ko in a car mall. i chose this instead of the silver i first posted because ang dami na rin prob sa paint nung silver.. pa-change ko na lng later to a color of my personal choosing . anyways, the original stereo and speakers are still working great. wala nga lang front power windows and car alarm which is present sa silver. ang plus lang dun sa maroon is naka-racing black and red mags sya.. i'll post pics soon.

i only have one mechanic who comes with me to check the cars..he checked the silver before and he said 110K(maroon) compared sa 130K(silver) is a good deal na. after the test drive, okei daw lahat..no problem with the engine, no leaks etc and cool aircon parin. that's why i settled with the maroon.

gusto ko sana sabihin i'll vote for the 91 corolla, pero it really really depends on the condition (bias kasi ako e hehehe)... pero for 90K, better stay away from this one, the amount you'll save will be the amount you'll be spending for repairs. besides, a not so good conditioned 1.6 GL engine will be a bit guzzler with a usual 6-7 km/l.

my vote will go to 97 LEC though i must admit i really don't like how it looks. hehehe.

another thing against the Toyota is that, naka timing belt siya unlike the Nissan which has timing chains+ twin cam

Mas matibay ang timing chain. Pag timing belt kasi, usually palit every 80 - 100k mileage. The chain lasts the lifetime of the car.

Twin cams naman generally generate more HP than single cams. Also, tuners can tweak more HP out of twin cam engines than SOHC's.
