August 24th, 2017 07:29 PM #32^It wouldn't be financially wise for Toyota to develop a separate unibody platform just for the Innova, when it could just base it on the same basic platform as the Hilux and Fortuner. Though Toyota does have a unibody MPV called the Wish which is very popular in Taiwan, but only comes with a gas engine.
IMHO using a ladder frame for the Innova does have its benefits. The Innova is still a utility vehicle. The tough underpinnings mean longer lasting suspension components especially under heavy duty use, which Metro Manila traffic basically always is. Tackling poorly made or unpaved provincial roads with it also gives more peace of mind as compared to, say, our LWB Carnival.
