    Hi Guys,

Just want to know your thoughts between the base models of Mazda CX-5 (2012) and Toyota RAV4 (2013). I know they have almost the same base model pricing so what are the advantages and disadvantages of each especially on the categories below. If there are factors that should be put in there please advise. Thanks.

    1. Safety
    2. Fuel consumption
    3. Handling
    4. Ride comfort (driver and passenger)
    5. Maintenance cost
    6. Add-ons (rear-view cam, bigger wheels, etc.)
    7. Reliability
    8. Looks

    Between the base variants...

    1. Safety - probably similar
    2. Fuel consumption - CX5
    3. Handling - CX5 has won many international car reviews but the local RAV4 has a more powerful engine (2.0L vs 2.5L)
    4. Ride comfort (driver and passenger) - similar
    5. Maintenance cost - CX5, due to 3 year "free" maintenance (free labor plus select parts like oils & filters)
    6. Add-ons (rear-view cam, bigger wheels, etc.) - CX5, leather steering wheel, touch screen entertainment system with Bluetooth, foglamps, cruise control, auto climate control, etc
    7. Reliability - probably similar as both are made in Japan
    8. Looks - subjective

With big discounts on the 2.0L and better payment options, CX-5 pricing might be slightly better than RAV4's.

Then considering the extra options, "free" maintenance plan, and gas money saved, the CX5 overall ownership experience may offset the RAV4's higher resale value.

Very true. Maganda ba sales nito sa ibang bansa kaya bihira dumating? Sabi ng iba 1-2 units per dealer lang daw ang binibigyan for now.

    1. Safety - CX5 (based on crash tests)
    2. Fuel consumption - CX5
    3. Handling - CX5
    4. Ride comfort (driver and passenger) - CX5 (more supple suspension
    5. Maintenance cost - Draw. Both all-new... Toyota 2.5 is also an all-new engine. We'll know more down the line. Yes... there are more Toyota suppliers, but not all of them carry parts for more expensive Toyota cars like the RAV4 and Camry.
    6. Add-ons (rear-view cam, bigger wheels, etc.) - CX5
    7. Reliability - Nobody knows.
    8. Looks - RAV4.

Thanks sir speed_kills and sir niky for the inputs. Thanks na rin sir EQAddict for the heads up. Looks like CX-5 wins.

Want to know na rin if pwede magpa upgrade ng 19" wheels from 17" on stock and magpakabit ng rear-view cam sa base model and magkano aabutin? Thanks.

Might as well just get that outside the dealership. Would be cheaper.

Also, 19" wheels will make the ride worse over bumpy roads.

Try test driving the MT CX5 at least if you're going base model. Tranny, presyo and available colors lang ang difference between the AT and the MT 2.0

Check the CX5 thread for accessories.

If you really want to upgrade to the OEM 19" wheels found on the AWD Variant, I think it's around 22k per wheel from the Casa.

I think some dealers can give 70k off on the CX-5 2.0L.

You also get to choose how to pay unlike the RAV4 as you may need to avail a dealer's in-house financing to get priority and practically spend at least 50-100k over retail.

sir niky - Thanks for the tip on the 19" wheels. Appreciate it. Hindi ba mavovoid ung warranty pag nagpakabit ng backing up camera outside the dealership?
sir JohnM - researched and saw the backing camera but worry ko lang is baka ma void ung warranty.
sir (or kuya) germs - aray, ang sakit nung price. OK, solid na ako sa 17" stock wheels. Mukhang maganda naman ung alloy rims nun eh.
sir speed_kills - appreciate the info. :-)

Pareho tayo ng problema since the closest casa sa amin is CDO. Dad talked to the casa na and they're willing to install a cam as long as plug and play lang.

The current rav 4 looks like an avanza for me. I dont know if its just me. I like the previous one in terms of looks. The CX 5 looks fresher for me.

So far observation ko sa Rav4 base model..

    Matulin, sisiw ang 190km/h
    Light steering
    Very spacious
    Maganda interior design
FC is ok, nasa 7km/L average ngayon

Ito ayoko sa Rav4 na base model

    Matagtag
    Tigas ng upuan
    Taas ng dashboard
Steering feels numb kasi nga magaan
    Sobrang bare
