Hello mga Sir's, I need help here, I'm planning to buy pick-up as my 2nd car, I know this has been discussed many times and I read many threads regarding pick-ups already pero hindi pa din ako maka-decide what to buy eh, maybe some of you can help me decide what to choose. And gusto ko na rin malaman yun latest pick-up ngayon.

Here's what I want, my budget is 900K - 1.2M only kasi 4x2 M/T lang target ko, it will use mainly on city driving, don't know on off road kasi wala naman ako ibang pinupuntahan from house lang to work.

    Thanks in advance.

You find the Ford Ranger too big, questioning Navara's ground clearance, Strada kinda small and Hilux is not on your list. That would only leave you with a few choices remaining. Either look at the Dmax or the Chevrolet Colorado. Try to check them out too, you might find what you are looking for in them.

Or if you are willing to try a Chinese brand, you might wanna look at Foton.

    Thanks.

Strada nalang bro. Since mostly city driving naman, being the most manueverable pickup in its class helps. Ride quality is quite nice, actually, even when riding at the rear. The bed size is on the small side, but big enough for most city dwellers.

It looks kinda small due to the small tires. If you invest in a set of bigger mags or even just upsized tires, the Strada will look much, much better. Our 2013 Strada 4x4 has the OEM 17 inch wheels and it looks absolutely butch!

But then if you get a pickup, you will have to shell out extra for a bed cover or canopy if you want your stuff dry and safe. Those stuff aren't cheap! We bought a Carryboy canopy for our Strada, and it cost 67k!

And I'm thinking kung Strada kukunin ko gusto ko sana modify ko agad yun gulong nya para maging macho ng konti sa paningin ko and siguro ayos na yun.

Thanks Sir, DMAX is nice too, although may mga naririnig ako na yun daw mga Isuzu maiingay makina and mausok.

Ayaw mo talaga mag AT? City driving lang naman..

I own a Dmax, sir, so I am biased towards it. So if you will ask me, Dmax ang pipiliin ko. For me kasi gusto ko ang exterior looks niya. Interior, hmm, ok lang, nothing to really brag about or make you wow. Model 08 ung akin so walang mga accessories as compared to the '13 model.

Engine, it's not a sprinter pero never ka naman niya ipapalya sa akyatan and kahit sa highway. Mabilis din naman siya, mine can run up to 175 kph then the speed limiter will interfere.

But don't really expect much comfort especially if you sit at the back, matagtag kasi. It does about 10+ kms/liter, city driving. Full tank ko is around 1800 pesos and it does about 600 kms.

Maintenance if it's expensive, it depends on the parts that need to be replaced. Just check the Dmax thread if you wanna see kung ano ano na ung na-replaced sa Dmax ko. Pero mahal din ang parts niya especially the SCV, EGR, brake pads, such and such.

Yun nga lang matagal na siya sa market and rumor has it that the all new is coming soon... Kung totoo man un.

But if you will put the Ranger in the picture, doon talaga ako. Mas bago, mas macho, mas gwapo.

    Good luck in choosing!

The D-Max is one of the toughest, most fuel efficient trucks in its class. Its wide powerband makes it ideal for heavy duty hauling. But then the ride is rather jittery, and rear seat space is pretty limited. I would suggest this more for provincial/farm use.

Depende parin sa driving habits mo bro. Even a 4 speed matic can be thrifty if you drive it right. Besides, you most likely won't be able to use 6th gear most of the time. Though that one's good to have in the highway.

Napakaluma na ng 4speed transmission. dapat i-phase out na yan at wala na dapat bumili nyan mapa AT or MT. At least 5 speed na kunin mo.

Ako mas gusto ko pa rin pickup kahit I know I can live with a sedan. Mas matibay kas and makesme less oc in driving on pholippine roads. Kahit sa banketa pwede mo sampa sampa. Mas maporma siya for me vs suvs hehehe. Kaya kanyang trip. Form over functionality for me hehe. RANGER!

First of all beauty is in the eye of the beholder. So choose the one that attracts you more.

Naturally, we will endorse the ones we drive. If i drive a navara, thats the one id recommend. Naturally.

    But i wont.

The TS has specific criteria. He wants a pickup but for other reasons. Id say he wants a "semi" pickup for city use.

Its his money. So let him be.

Without bias, id suggest the strada for your specific needs.

But best advise is check all the pickups and test drive them.

    Goodluck and keep us posted.

    Happy driving!

    just an update:

just this afternoon i went to my car then basta na lang ako tumakbo and the weird thing is all of a sudden nalaman ko na lang nasa Toyota dealer nako tapos nakatingin na ako sa Hilux, LOL.

the SA gave me a tempting offer. 4x2 2.5L Dsl, 4 Cylinder, 16 Valve DOHC Variable Nozzle Turbo with Intercooler - what do think of this Hilux mga Sir?

The 3.0 is bulletproof but here are several problems with their 2.5. Sabi nila na solve na but there are still cases here and there.

Well in that case, you're left with three choices: strada , hi lux, and dmax.. For me id choose between strada and hi lux. The hi lux is a real workhorse and can be argued as the tougher one compared to the strada. But then again, you stated that you will not be using it for hauling most of the time and you will be using it in the city, so maybe strada is more for you.

I suggest that you test drive both strada and hi lux and just forget the offers for the mean time and focus more on how you feel when driving them. In the end, you will be the one to choose your ride according to what you feel is the right vehicle for you...

    another question mga Sir:

So in case Strada kunin ko ano kaya pwede ko imodify change/add para maging macho in my eyes ang Strada?

    tnx again.
