I have an uncle who used to own a 1st gen 3 door Pajero M/T. At some point of its life, he had the original 4D56 engine transplanted with a 4M40 unit. Maintenance is simple, being an old school diesel, and the same as any same era 5 door Pajero. Fuel efficiency? My uncle reported 8km/L on average in lead-footed city driving. Parts for the Pajero are everywhere! You will never have a hard time looking for spare parts considering the numbers of these on the roads.
Yung bodystyle na yan is 93-97 I think... Most probably its a converted unit, so have the conversion checked especially since it's a subic unit sa plaka pa lang.
Look at the right side headlight yellowish tpos mukhang me tubig (I could be wrong?) Paint looks like hindi na original, dinamay pa yung grill sa ilalim ng skidplate, yung grill silver painted din orig should be chrome... hehehe
Parts? banawe marami Intercooler body & fieldmaster body halos same lang parts nila kaya di problem...
Maintenance? since old school diesel its not that hard change oil lang
FC kung 2.8-T 4M40 nasa 6km/l lang while yung 2.5 4d56-T around 8-9km/l
That's from from what I know
Plates starting from R indicates a Subic registered unit, while a B-plate indicates a Cagayan registered unit. Cars with these plates are usually converted.
My uncle used to have a 1st gen 3 door Pajero. Somehow he managed to blow up the original 4D56 engine and so swapped it with a 4M40 engine, while still using a manual transmission. This combo gets him around 8km/L city, lead footed driving.
Ahh ganun ba. Bumili kasi kami ng 2nd hand 3 door pajero 3 years ago.
Routine maintenance should rectify this.
Malakas fc nung gas version (4x4 3500cc) nyan. Reason enough for me to sell ours kahit murang gas samin at the time. Kakainis kasi na everyweek lagi pa full tank. It also didn't help na grabe traffic to work and back so it compounded things. .
Maintenance wise, minor electricals naman ang issue ko dahil maraming touch buttons. Mitsu vehicles are at times prone to electrical problems as reported by other drivers. I'm not in Manila so I won't know parts sourcing or availability nyan.
Ride wise, malambot naman at komportable with great torsional rigidity kahit sa high suspension setting nya. Not so truck like feel kagaya ng ibang SUV. I like the push button soft/hard air susp setting which came handy at times.
But overall, a good to excellent SUV. The rally version was to lust for dahil Paris-Dakar proven at wow sa bilis.
.
I would only consider it IF I could find an original LHD unit (not converted)
