Hello! I'm on the market for a brand new subcompact/crossover. I'm currently driving a sedan and it's definitely time to replace it especially due to safety concerns.

Anyway, I'm eyeing either the Honda BR-V or the newly-introduced Suzuki Vitara. Some preliminary pros for each car:
BR-V: 7-seater capacity, higher ground clearance at 201 mm (vs ~180 for Vitara)
Vitara: Cruise control, sunroof, slightly better specs, slightly cheaper

If you were in my position, which would you pick? Inputs from owners of either vehicles would be amazing.

    Maraming salamat!

Looks-wise mas ok sakin yung vitara na mukhang crossover unlike the BRV na undecided if crossover or ppv or suv hehe. I just dont know about the specs and availability of parts for the vitara. But i think vitara wouldn't be a bad choice.

Specs-wise lamang pa rin ang Vitara, I guess the problem is kakarelease lang niya so wala pa masyado reviews? Haha the perils of being an early adopter! But magaling naman ang Suzuki sa SUV imho, so yeah I agree it shouldn't be a bad choice...

Both r good vehicle, walang tapon gaya nga ng sabi nila. Between the 2 models mas ok sa akin si Vitara. But if ur looking for a more than 5 seating capacity,BRV naman.

seems like you don't need 7 seats coz you're considering the vitara in which case you probably don't need the extra space on the BR-V. a shorter vehicle does have its benefits in everyday driving: easier to park etc.

between the brv's CVT and vitara's 6spd slushbox i'd go w/ the slushbox

don't read too much into the "ground clearance" in the spec sheet. in real-world city driving you're more likely to scrape the bottom of the front bumper so do compare that aspect instead

oh btw brv is slightly narrower than ecosport. vitara is slightly wider than ecosport

para sa kin BRV is not a SUV. nilagyan yan lang ng black plastic trims sa wheel arc para magmukang SUV,

it's not SUV it's mPV aka the mobilio raised.

so Vitara GLX all the way hihihi

Luckily, nakapag-drive ako ng 1st gen, during early 2000's (2003) at age of 15yrs old. first real vehicle na nadrive ko at very young age..

BRV, never pa ako nakapag-drive ng ganitong sasakyan, pero other model variant katulad ng mobilio this year, old model ng civic, during early days of driving.. ok naman..

Haha yeah you got me there. I really don't need the two extra seats, it just feels like a nice add-on feature. Quite impressive rin for a car of that size and price, though I agree that It makes it a bit awkwardly long.

Thanks for the tips! I'm sorta leaning towards the Vitara for now.

Hello! Pano kung di agad lumabas yun car this year eh di tatamaan na tayo? hayy.. Also, pano performance ng vitara since bago sa market? This is the risk we will take if finally Vitara na ang mapili.

Car companies are feeding on the fear of buyers that current prices are "limited offers" and that prices will increase in 1 month. Truth is, like anything that passes through government, you can expect vehicle excise tax implementation to be delayed.

    So wag ka magpapressure. 😂

The new vitara is my long time crush way back the 2nd generation pa, now is the 4th generation if I am not wrong is still my crush. And would I know that this model would be released in the Philippines, I could have waited a few months more to drive this baby, although I don't have regrets getting my current ride as it serves it's purpose naman.

I would suggest that you go for the vitara. But whichever model you choose, you wont go wrong with a japanese brand as many would agree.

Regarding the new excise tax, I think it is computed based on the car manufacturing cost and not the srp yata? So yung tax ng 1M na srp less profit and some other add-on features will fall to lower bracket. And if ever ma implement naman yung new excise tax, gradual din yata from 2018 to 2019... yung mga 2M pataas na bracket ang heavily ma affected.

And I agree that you use a bank loan rather than in-house financing, mas makaka mura ka nun. You can go directly to your choice of bank first, have it approved before going to the dealer of your choice.

Although I think we still have to be grateful as owning a car in the Philippines is still way cheaper compared to other countries. Like owning a Swift in SG will cost about Php3M while it's only Php700kish lang satin. But I think the gov't must first improve the mass transport system, like the MRT, trains, buses and jeepneys in the country which will make it safe and convenient for the regular working class which we could then let go of the need of driving our cars from point A to B thus we could let go of owning one, like if we are living in SG or HK just to compare plus the octopus and ezlink cards are very convenient to use. Then car ownerships would just be for the executives and the rich and they could tax it extravagantly. That is my personal opinion though.

Hi PrizefighterMD - did you go with Suzuki Vitara? or Honda BRV? Just wondering as I also can't decide if I should get a Vitara or a BRV. I'm honda fan and I have a civic FD so I'm leaning towards Honda BRV. But Grand Vitara, aestethics wise, is much better but I don't know much about Suzuki cars.

Moving from a Civic FD to a BRV or Vitara? I guess that's a backward move in terms of car responsiveness. If you love your Civic FD, I suggest you look at the Civic FC instead as replacement for your FD. If you want to keep your Civic FD, I guess you don't mind a less responsive ride.

Although at an advantage naman talaga kung makakabili ka na agad at the SRP of pre-excise tax while paying with an income of post-excise implementation.

Haha thanks, everyone! Very helpful inputs Mukhang unanimous ah, so most likely Vitara GLX na nga ito! Btw I was able to inquire with Suzuki Kalookan and Suzuki Pasig and ang offer nila both is 200k DP, 21+k monthly amortization for 5 years.
