Now that the 2nd fortuner facelift is out, which would you pick among the 2 SUV's?

I know there are a lot of threads regarding this 2 SUV's, but i just want to know your comments & inputs on the
respective "Top of The Line" variants of each latest model.

    • Engine Performance
    • Suspension & Driving Comfort
    • Car Features

What i like on the new 3.0V Fortuner
New front design  , except the new tail lights

What i like on the Montero Sport GTV
Paddle shifters & Touch screen info display.

Engine Performance: 3.0V, gotta give it to the 1KD-FTV for its superior torque delivery across the rpm band.
Suspension & Driving Comfort: GTV for now. There are some reports saying that the tweaked suspension of the Fortuner puts it on par with the Montero though I wouldn't count on it yet.
Car Features: GTV, you get paddle shifters, 5spd AT, LCD HU.

Real downside with the GTV or any Montero for that matter is the cramped 2nd row bench, barely three people can fit comfortably. The looks are personal but I find that even the first-gen Fortuner ages better than the Montero.

Fortuner is what I would choose. I actually like the design of the Montero Sport, but the Fortuner seems to have a better driveline.

Depends on what you want. The Fortuner should do better on low end grunt or hauling/towing purposes due to the wider torque plateau but the Montero would be better on top end speed and fuel economy. But the Fortuner is still jittery the last time I rode one (2010 2.5D4D) and it was fully loaded.

Its like saying you choosed the montero sport to be the better SUV because before you bought it im sure you choosed between
the two. Right now you choosed the fortuner coz you already have the Montero

do the 2nd row seats of the fortuner recline just like that of the montero?

    Parehong pareho amp.

At least for me it doesn't make too much sense to put some sporty wheels into an SUV. But since the owner of those Monteros is a politician, whatever, since nowhere in the world their decisions make any sense

I'd say talo ang Fort in terms of speed, perhaps gas mileage, ride comfort, braking and features. Pero panalo in terms of refinement, looks (to a certain degree), and... and... what else is there? I suppose they both have their good points and bad points. Nothing is perfect after all~

I agree, mas refined yung engine ng Fort kasi mas bago talagang design. Pero problem sa 3.0 D4D is yung AT ay 4 speed pa din, IMO sayang yung engine, may ibibigay pa sana kung 5 speed yan.

The GTV Monty is only stronger than the 3.0-litre Forty at screaming revs of 4000 rpm, because it can rev-out further. The 3.0-litre Forty's 1KD-FTV is not designed to be an ultimate revver but rather as a well-packaged engine that caters very broadly all throughout its useable powerband even from a low rev of 1400 rpm. It's already giving out a meaty 343 Nm of torque even when it's only doing a total of 700 times per minute pressure combustion at 1400 rpm engine-radial speed (rpm) since it's a 4-stroke diesel engine ---- i.e. a cycle of 1 pressure combustion for every two-revolution of the crank. Pressure combustion is in sequence for each of the 4-cylinders that are connected in 90-degree throws along the crank.

The GTV Monty is NEVER EVER faster at all than the 3.0-litre Forty even when the latter is just a 4-speed tranny. Kindly see below sir.

Mas maganda pa rin sir ang gear ratios/ spacings ng 3.0-litre Forty kaysa Monty GTV, and it is faster. This is an excerpt on what i have posted at Toyota Forum in one of the past threads thereat. Hey, you were there nga pala sir! Haha! ;)

At kahit saan along the rev range, maganda ang gear ratios ng 3.0-litre Fortuner D4-D at mas mabilis cruising speed nito at any-one time along the rpm range kaysa Monty GTV.... However, your Monty GTV could be revving much freely than the 3.0-litre D4-D engine that's why sa kuwento-kuwentuhan mo sir mabilis ito sa drag-racing. This only means that the required time for the Monty GTV to go through its powerband could be faster than the relatively slower-revving 3.0-litre D4-D.

The "speed at rpm" shown here is a different thing and it applies more to daily routines than drag-stripping. If you have responsive low-end and better gearing like that of the 3.0 Toyota D4-D that means your engine needs only low revs to go faster and accomplish task, therefore saving more on fuel since it doesn't rev as much....
....Simple lang naman yan sir, nakukuha ang speed at any rpm base sa rpm ng makina, gearing, at tire dimension at hindi sir sa kung saan-saan man :D ....As an example, ganito lang halos yan sir, say at 2000 rpm....

    2.5 Mitsu Monterosport GTV 5-speed auto-tranny, 101.6 kph at 2000 rpm

    3.0 Toyota Fortuner D4D 4-speed auto-tranny, 110.7 kph at 2000 rpm

Now if you gentlemen are still in doubt, kindly go to the Engine and Fuel System Talk and click onto the last page of the sticky thread dedicated to Racechip Pro. There's a fine gentleman out there with a modded GTV Montysport and he stated in there that he's making 100 kph at 2000 rpm.
    http://tsikot.com/forums/engine-fuel...05/index9.html

Ngunit sa dalawang yan mas mabilis pa rin at low-revving ang 2.2-litre Santa Fe R-eVGT sa dalawa. At 2000 rpm the 4x2 Fe is speeding 112 kph, while the 4x4 is speeding at 112.3 kph. In fact it is running 190 kph even when it's only revving 3392 rpm.

Actually in real world driving sir nasa 120km/h na yung 2000RPM sa Santa Fe. 3000RPM nasa 170km/h na.

    Sarap
