which is better pizza pie lancer or mazda familia big body???

hi guys!

im new here at tsikot.com. I need your insights on this one. Which is better? Mistubishi lancer pizza pie or the Mazda Familia Big body? can you give me some pro and cons on these two cars. Im planning to buy a second hand car and these two are the top choices of my dad (which is most of the budget comes from ). Another thing, he also wants AT because he wants to use it sometimes (pagod na sa kk-clutch). Thanks mga bro!!!!!!!

ASSUMING both are in good condition and of similar model years, the Mazda has the edge in cabin space while the Mitsubishi is very easy to service (the Mazda is not far behind).

Do you have any specific models in mind. These two have many different variants which could ultimately influence your decision making process.

thanks sa reply bro, Does Mazda have GLXI models?? un yta ung cnbi skin ni erpats tpos ung pizza pie GLXI din, bkt yta ang mura nung mazda pero same year lang cla?? what madalas problem nung both cars?? what naman mga edge nila?? by the way both cla AT. thanks!!! That's shift shock. Without driving that particular car, I can't tell you whether it's normal or it indicates that you need to replace the ATF (transmission fluid).

Personally, if you're looking at cars that old, it's not a good idea to get an AT, as ATs of that age, for any car, tend to be fragile. If you do get an AT, you have to check the running condition and ATF consistency very carefully.

Not sure, but I do know that Mazdas of the time have some rear fender rust problems. At this age, you'll also need to check both cars carefully for suspension issues, idle problems and the like. I have no idea whether the "pizza pie" Lancer is rust-prone or not, as I have no firsthand experience of it.

As for Mazda resale value, that's because when Mazda was in the Philippines before, the dealership service wasn't all that good, and when they pulled out, Mazda resale values plummeted because people thought that they wouldn't be able to service them anymore (which is not true, actually). Though the new Mazda doesn't carry parts for old Mazdas, you can find them readily at a number of shops in Banaue or at Kia Motors in Pasay.

a. body is more rigid, feels more thicker
b. the GLXI is a complete car. airbags, disk brakes, even a six CD player
c. engine is more powerful

WEAKNESS
a. lower resale value
b. engine supports
c. rust prone body
d. the unit i had driven before eh matigas ang clutch (dunno why, pero isolated ito...)
e. consumes more fuel

MITSU LANCER
STRENGTHS

a. cheaper to maintain
b. mas masarap pagandahin... (experience ko to huh)
c. fuel efficient compared to M Familia
d. higher resale
e. sarap i drive..
f. body not prone to rust.
g. fogee (although i've seen din na mga fogee na M-F)
h. its a mitsu....


WEAKNESS

a. suspension really sucks (as with the former models), but this would go after you replace your entire suspension with aftermarket parts
b. the lowest variant eh sobrang boring (EL). ni walang mags eh...
c. sometimes, tends to be a little bit underpowered.
d. higher incidents of power steering kit failure.

I'm an owner of a 97 Lancer GLXi and I'm fine with my ride right now, it never failed me on long drives.

The only thing that I hate about the Lancer is the A/C and the underchassis.

But if I'm in your shoes right now, I'd still be going with the Lancer.

Happy_G!, so far wala naman problema, na solve na ng surplus compressor, pansin ko lang sirain ang Lancer A/C, naka dalawang Lancer na ako, A/C palagi ang major headache, or natatapat lang sa akin

I had the same predicament two years ago. My target was a Lancer GLXi 97 but I decided to get a Familia Gen2.5 GLXi 97. The big body you're talking about would be the Gen1, boxy type.

Lancer GLXi 97
Pros
- 1.6 4G92 SOHC EFI, decent engine with good fuel consumption
- Nice body contours
- Body kits readily available
- All power
- Parts are more available

Cons
- Suspension problems as in most Mitsus have
- Clutch is so so though I'm talking about the 2003 model.
- Steering is also a so so can't say much about it.
- No ABS, no airbags


Familia GLXi 97
Pros
- B6D DOHC EFI, torquey engine though it will consume more fuel in comparision with other 1.6 engines. Very responsive engine.
- Very good suspension, great handling
- Body contours is a lot better than the Lancer imho
- With ABS and airbag
- Bang for the buck!

Cons
- Erratic idling, caused by dirty MAF sensor. Can be cured by just cleaning it or have a proper tune up. Most car owners tend to overlook this.
- Engine supports as what they say but haven't had a problem with it yet.
- Rear fender rust. Caused by accumulating mud inside. You just need to make sure it's always cleaned.
- Gas consumption. It's not far from other 1.6s but if you're looking for an automatic... typical will be 6-7 km/l city driving. From what I heard the lancer a/t can do 8 km/l city. Mine's a manual and it consumes 8.8 km/l tops city driving but I shift gears more lately. Others can do a 10-11 km/l.
- Automatic tranny. Make sure you always check that your ATF is in tops.
- Maintenance is not like a Toyota or a Honda where you can get parts anywhere but contrary to belief parts are abundant like Nissans or Mitsus. You just have to know where to get them.

Btw if you're looking for a Gen1, there are only two models that I know off: the 1.6 DOHC EFI GLX and 1.3 SOHC LX which was relased 1994-96.

+1 sa Familia GLXi

vague ang resale value ng Mazda Familia... yake advantage of it. last two weeks sa classified ads ng M.Bulletin i saw two 97 model Familia pareho GLX yung isa 170thou, yung isa 220thou. get the one in the lower range.

it has lots of features, good engine note and power, roomy cabin and nice handling.

i had an experience owning a Mazda AT (626) in my experience, normal ang shiftshock sa kanya, downshifts quick and knows how and when to stay at its powerband for overtaking. although malakas sa gas ang AT.

sa Lancer ive heard alot of owner complaining their servos, AC and AT. makalampag too but handles great.

IMO - you can't go wrong with either vehicle.

Though the Mazda Familia will be a bit cheaper which you can use to your advantage.

And as niky said, stay away from any A/T equipped 90s vehicle.
