Locally assembled vs official import vs parallel import

Newbie lang po ako rito and kakainteresado ko lang po sa kotse. Gusto ko po sanang malaman kung alin-alin dito sa 'Pinas ang mga brand na tinatawag na:

a. LOCALLY ASSEMBLED

b. OFFICIAL IMPORT

c. PARALLEL IMPORT

Kasi dito po ata binabase ang presyuhan, lalo na sa bentahan. Pa-share naman po ng kuro-kuro nyo.

Locally assembled = I think a number of Fords fall in this category.

Official import = Many cars nowadays are built in Thailand (Honda, Toyota) with Japan steadily declining (Suzuki).

Parallel import = I'm not sure what this means, but it'll probably be synonymous to the more prevalent term "gray import." Usually gray imports are cars from Japan that are brought in via shipping in Subic or Cebu, among other places. The major giveaway for a gray import is usually its non-availability here. Stuff like the Toyota bB, Toyota Alphard, Mazda Bongo (Friendee), Mitsubishi Pajero Mini, Suzuki Wagon R/RR, EK-chassis Honda Civic hatchbacks and the like are notable gray-import cars.

I guess parallel import means same vehicle sold at the local market by an authorized dealer and gray importer. Example of this is the Toyota Land Cruiser that one can get from a Toyota dealer or direct importer...

Any references to any brands and its variants are based on the assumption that they are brand new vehicles being sold to the market.

Not an extensive nor exhaustive list but hopefully you'd get the picture....

OFFICIAL IMPORT - are the brands that are officially represented by a local counterpart (usually as a distributor) to act on its behalf. It mostly consists of other model and its variants being sold by (but not limited to)the brands listed above. All Euro, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, etc.. belong to this category.

PARALLEL IMPORT - this simply means that an entity or individual decides to import a similar type of vehicle that is already officially (see definition of OFFICIAL IMPORT) available in the market.

Toyota Land Cruiser 200 VX (TMPI) vs. LC200 GX-R, VXR from Standout

Interesting, may pagka-gray area pa rin pala ang "gray import" - most especially if the vehicle being imported is already available under authorized resellers.
