I had the chance to look at the new CX-7 at the Mazda showroom this morning. It's a nice cross over SUV and it was bigger than I expected...hinde nga lang barako gaya ng Montero or Fortuner.

I've also been looking at the Montero Sport 4x2 and was considering on getting one already. I'm wondering now though which would be a better choice...the CX-7 or the Montero Sport 4x2. They are almost in the same price range but the porma is very different.

It will be a daily driver...mostly just by myself (office-house) with weekend drives with the family. Cabin space and leg room is a consideration since I am about 6ft tall.

Owners of both vehicles, please chime in with your recommendations...and what makes one better than the other.

    Thanks.

    CX-7!

Mas bagay for office routes and it can also do long distance driving I am sure, wag lang yung super off-road. Yung mga medyo mabato, damo, and mud kaya yun! And as eggman said way mas maporma CX-7 sa Montero Sport.

I was told by the SA na may pila na rin daw sa CX-7. I would have placed a reservation deposit weeks ago but did not really want to commit until I saw the car in the flesh and test drove it (I'll schedule this week).

Grabe pila sa montero.. pipilitin ka pa nila mag inhouse financing eh sobra laki ng interest nila pag inhouse. Pag di ka naman inhouse kahit naka pila ka mas priority pa nila ung mag iinhouse.

hehehe...eggman sabi ni mrs swabe ang cx7....as in....resale value?,.,,we never take that in consideration when we bought our tribute and the cx7,,,kasi to us owning a car is like having it as a part of the family...kaya hanggang pwede magtagal sa amin eh aalagaan namin ng husto...if it's time to replace...for whatever it costs..then ganun nalang....like what sir niky said...just go where your heart takes you..kung saan ka masaya....peace....

I'm not an owner of either vehicle so my POV will be strictly theoretical. If I were to draw up a checklist...

    1. Price: Montero Sport 4x2 * P1.36M | CX-7 * P1.495M. Winner: Montero

    2. Engine: Montero * 2.5L diesel, 134 hp, 314 nm torque | CX-7 * 2.5L gas, 161 hp, 218 nm torque. Montero seems to be the better workhorse, but would be sluggish for spirited runs. CX-7 would most likely be more fun to run. I guess it's a question of do you do prefer hauling or do you prefer running?

    3. Tranny: Montero * 4AT | CX-7 * 5AT. More fun to run scores for CX-7 here.

    4. Safety & other tech stuff: Montero * 2 airbags, ABS, EBD | CX-7 * 6 airbags, ABS, EBD, DCS, TCS. Paubusan pa lang ng alphabet, panalo na ang CX-7.

    5. Seating: Montero * 7 | CX-7 * 5. Choice depends on how many family members you take with you on those weekend drives.

    6. Styling and amenities: I think CX-7 wins in this area. It's a darn good looking CSUV - inside and out.

    7. Room for a 6-ft tall driver: CX-7 was designed with an American/global market in mind, ergo considerations were made for tall (and wide) drivers. I don't think our version of the Montero Sport is in the US. Nevertheless, the best judge for this would be you when you do the test drives.

Personally my vote goes to the CX-7. Good luck w/ the car hunt!

Nice inputs there JackFlash...and from everyone as well. I'm leaning more towards the CX-7 now.

sana makuha na sa udyok na ito... hehehe... no offense sa mga babae sa dito, but if these 2 cars were women, montero would be the marrying kind, the cx7 would be the model / other woman na you would show off at parties etc...

seriously, i'd go for the cx7... perfect for the family of 5 and as a daily drive... ***y pa!!! wootwooohhh

I test drove the CX-7 yesterday. It was just a short drive so I couldn't really appreciate the ride. Nevertheless, the CX-7 felt solid and I couldn't complain about the handling.

Napansin ko lang na parang masikip sa likod. The legroom was fine although probably a little tight for a big guy sitting behind the driver seat if I was driving.

Pero yung back seat parang masikip if 3 adults were sitting shoulder to shoulder. It appeared to me na mas malapad and comfortable yung second row sitting ng Santa Fe kahit na tatlong adults pa yung tabi tbai sa likod.

Can someone confirm if mas maluwag and malapad nga 2nd row sitting ng Santa Fe?

    Thanks.

Mas malapad ang Santa Fe being a true mid-size crossover with 7 seats to boot (while the CX-7 is more of a borderline between compact and mid-size) according to the dimensions in the specs

    SF = 4675 x 1890 x 1795 (in mm)
    CX-7 = 4,699 x 1,872 x 1,645 (in mm)

But beyond figures, nasa design na din!

Mazda CX-7 or Montero Sport 4x2
