    hello peeps.
need your help, comments and inputs on both rides.
looking for a new ride. not for me.
    hehehe.
choosing between the Xtrail, Rav4, Tribute, Escape, Grand Vitara, Outlander.
looking only for a 4x2 version but must be A/T.
    budget is 1M-1.2M.

here's my take on why we are down into these two already.

Xtrail - center dashboard (kinda confusing), plus noticed the tranny is the same as the sentra's tranny. nothing wrong with that, just thought they would use a different one for the Xtrail. they have the same promo as the Tribute, higher only by 10K.

Rav4 - sadly, out of the budget set aside.

Tribute - sunroof, tempting promo (less than 100K and i can bring home a unit already)

Escape - no sunroof? hehehe. plus Tribute and Escape shares the same platform, why not go with the one with the sunroof.

Grand Vitara - new unit, still within the budget i think, plus they already released the 4x2 2.0L version. but i dont know if they have a promo or something as tempting as the Tribute. havent actually dropped by any Suzuki dealer yet coz of the holidays.

Outlander - di namin type body. hehehe.

also on the side note, konti pa kasi meron Tribute and GV dito sa lucena and siyempre mas ok kung la ka kaparehas masyado.

also saw and opened the thread of both Tribute and GV. learned a lot from it thus making me really decide between the two.

any comments and inputs po would gladly appreciated.

    thank you po.

We don't really need sunroofs here. Just another thing to maintain unless you replace cars frequently.

Between the Tribute and the Grand Vitara, the Grand Vitara wins hands down.

Btw, does it have to be brand new? If not, try looking for a 2006 model Santa Fe. Its sticker price is at 1.5M, but knowing the depreciation of Korean cars here in the Philippines, a one (1) year old Santa Fe may be had for 1.2M.

The X-Trail doesn't use the same gearbox as the local Sentra, as far as I know, although it might be the same gearbox that the US SE-R (160 hp "base" SE-R variant) used, since it's the same engine.

It's no big thing for a CUV to share engines and gearboxes with passenger cars by the same maker... the Tribute/Escape shares engines and drivetrains with the Mazda6, while the CRV shares with the Civic.

    ----

RE: Sunroofs? They won't get stuck up like regular windows (no glass-through-channels), and the sliding mechanism is sturdy. I haven't seen many secondhand units with sunroof problems. Admittedly, leaks might occur when the rubber wears down, but that's not a big issue with channeled factory-installed sunroofs.

    ----

Personally, among the two short-listed (Tribute, Vitara), I prefer the Tribute... but that's personal preference, mind.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

yep. i agree. actually natuwa lang mom ko dun.
its still the promo that is the thing to beat for us sa tribute, coz performance wise i think ok naman halos lahat.

    Bry
yep. bnew dapat. matic is a must.
ganda nga ng sta fe, kaso naman lampas sa budget.

    squatt3r
yep. medyo type ko din nga GV.
4x4 na din pala yung 2.0L AT model nila.
ot: yep kami po yun. dito sa lucena.

    niky
    thanks for the input sir.
actually not sure about the tranny of the sentra and xtrail.
but what i saw is the shifter itself is exactly the same as any matic sentra.
la lang, thought medyo iba naman konti ginamit nila.

    saipeme
ei sir san po kayo dito? actually dito naman ako manila lagi. hehehe. cannot personally give comment on the sportivo sir coz la pa kami naging isuzu na unit. but if you have the same budget, add a bit more and you can get the new 9seater starex already. matic or manual. coz for us, if its in the classification of a van, starex kami lagi. tried and tested (for us) every since it stepped on our shores.

May bumagsak sa bubong ng Tribute ng friend ng brother ko. Basag yung moonroof. Ewan ko kung stray bullet o spent firecracker. Wala pa naman comprehensive.

The Escape does offer all wheel drive (not available with the Tribute).

There are no 4x2 Grand Vitaras. The V6 model has a moonroof also.
