Guys, please help me choose between these two sub compact cars. i know there's an accent, vios, jazz, rio out there but i'm choosing between these two.

    in terms of:
    -PERFORMANCE (0-100 km/h)
-looks based on what others think of (just wanted your opinion guys :D)
    -reliability
    -maintenance cost per 10k pms
-resale value (maybe after 5 years)

you can add some inputs guys! TIA!

    -PERFORMANCE (0-100 km/h)-Mazda2?

-looks based on what others think of (just wanted your opinion guys :D)-City for me.

-reliability-As long as maintained ang unit, i think tatagal ang mga ito.

-maintenance cost per 10k pms-I think yung mazda is cheaper.

-resale value (maybe after 5 years)-No Doubt. City! Hands Down.

sir sleepcare thanks for that fast reply.
regarding sa performance sir, do you think honda city 1.3s is faster than 1.5 of mazda 2? and how about availability of parts? considering na both of them honda city and mazda 2 are almost 2 years old.

what i mean about the performance is, could the 1.3s city match or perform a bit closer to the power of mazda 2 1.5? thanks!

Dikit naman sila sa performance. The mazda2 has 103HP while the City can do 100HP. Sa parts, i think mas marami ang City kasi marami narin sila sa kalsada.

Probably not... Honda have always claimed HIGH HORSEPOWER on higher revs pero sablay parin sila sa low end of the rev range and the distribution of that power in the rev range. So I say the Mazda while its max HP is only 3HP more than the 1.3 Honda the power is better distributed and for me that's more important than max HP itself cause how many times lang ba will you reach max HP?

+1, for better enjoyment of the ride kasi specially in roads with minimal long straights, much better talaga yung broad yung power delivery para mas smooths acceleration. Yan napapansin ko sa mga e-VGT, VGT, VNT equipped cars with broad power distribution esp isuzu and toyota. Athletic yung dating ng handling. Ganun din yan basically sa cars. Bibihira naman talaga mahataw to the max power yung cars natin eh.
Fasten your seatbelt! Or else... Driven To Thrill!

    Performance? Mazda2.
It's VERY light, and it can go toe-to-toe with rivals with slightly higher HP on paper. Handles like a cheap roadster to boot. Unless you're driving on the highway, you won't find the engine lacking. Give it a test-drive! (around corners!)

Looks? Subjective, but I'll go for the Mazda2 as well.
They say the smiley grille is love-or-hate. Well, guess what. I love it. I prefer the City's roomier interior though, despite the lack of steering wheel controls haha.

Reliability? City. (due to parts availability)
Not that my Mazda2 has broken down on me, or anything. I'm pretty sure they'll both last long, if they're well-maintained. But you can't deny that the City has a better selection of parts locally available because of the sheer number of people who bought the unit.

    Maintenance Cost? Tie?
I'm not sure how cheap a City is to maintain, but both cars are serviced at a 10k interval. Barring the "casa taga" charges of parts, perhaps the costs are comparable.

    Resale Value? City.
Whether you agree or not, Honda is regarded as the "premium Japanese brand" in the country. You won't have any trouble selling the H badge locally.

(Le subjective) Conclusion: The City is more spacious, and has a slightly-better ride for passengers. The Mazda2 is for someone who will be driving solo most of the time. It's very driver-centric, and the fine handling is given the consequence of a slightly harsher suspension. Is it going to be a people carrier? Or for a binata and his date? Test-drive both, preferably with friends/family, and see which one you'll prefer overall.

thankyou guys for the replies. ) very much appreciated!
i think we're leaning more on mazda 2 sedan M/T. if only mazda offered manual tranny on hatchbacks, we won't be considering honda 1.3s. i just don't like the big taillights of mazda 2 sedan but ithink, in time, masasanay din ako and i'll find it attractive. thanks guys!

Since I don't really dig the Mazda 2 sedan's looks, I'd go on the City here. Plus, having tried sitting in one the interior really feels expensive and worth the price.

You can disregard this message but, wont you consider the 1.6L Fiesta S ? It's a hatchback too, with much more features and with much better looks compared to the Mazda 2 in any form ( may it be the hatch or the sedan )

Never driven the Mazda 2 so cant comment on it. I do own a 1.5E City.

My maintenance cost is about 3,900 pesos every 10,000 kms. Basically 4 liters of synthetic oil and oil filter plus labor.

I may concede to the fact that many prefer the Fiesta hatch styling over the M2's.. but the Fiesta Sedan? I don't fancy it at all, especially that bug-eyed rear. (No offense to Fiesta Sedan owners, this is just my subjective side speaking)

    performance
i think the mazda 2 would be my bet lalo na kung both m/t then first gear arangkada agad ang laban. but that doesn't mean i underestimate the power of 1.3 engines, heck i'm also been beaten by a 1.3 kahit na ba 2.2 engine ko. i'm just more in favor of the mazda 2s

    looks
nakakasawa sa daan ang city. although it's good looking, masyado nga lang rampant. they're both good looking naman pero for me, the mazda 2 has some edge over the city

    reliability
depende to sa makukuha mong unit kung lemon or not. yung tipong mga ganun. at siyempre, depende sa mag mamay-ari kung pano siya mag alaga

    maintenance cost per 10k pms
no idea. even though we own a honda. we don't service it/do pms to the casa

resale value (maybe after 5 years)

I drove the Mazda 2, and I have to say that I had a lot of FUN with that car. It was very zippy. Very quick as it's not so heavy. On looks alone without comparing it to another car..i don't like the look of it THAT much..but compared to the Honda City that's EVERYWHERE, it makes me like the look of the mazda 2 much more.

When you have a car that not everyone has..it's much of a looker. If you drove outside right now..the 1st car you'll probably see is a Honda City..it's that popular.

I drove the Honda City for about 3 days. I used it for my daily routines. I do not like the design of the car's interior as much. It's definitely not a fast car. I was driving the City E and took it on Daang Hari (open stretch of road) and pushed it. when i got to 80, I KNEW i was going 80..i could feel it..unlike some other cars where you wouldn't have a slight inkling you were going 80, 100, or. There was a bit of road noise. Also..it's not so quiet as i thought. I drove by some students on the street and could hear their conversation though the window was closed.

But the City is a bit more spacious. Big big trunk.
as for maintenance and PMS ..i can't really say.

Honda city 1.3s vs mazda 2 1.5 sedan (both m/t)
