In the 90s, the EK VTi (96-00) and AE101 GLi (93-97) are my favorites in the 1.6-liter class. You can't go wrong with either of them. Each has its advantages and disadvantages.

    VTi
    - VTEC power
    - attractive design
    - slick gearbox (manual)

    GLi
    - very reliable engine and suspension
    - lots of affordable spare parts
    - available airbag (96 model onwards) and ABS (late 96 to early 97)

Yes I do. I chose the Corolla myself and my parents the Civic. It took time for me to like that car because it's A/T.

Basta the best in suspension reliability is Corolla. Civic's chassis has sportier handling but not tuned for our roads, so it wears out more easily.

Not sure about the GLXi, but the VTi aircon seems colder than the GLi.

    Dating car ko 96 VTi, Father ko naman dating car nya 95 Corolla GLi;

    Civic:
    - tipid sa gas
    - excellent A/C
    - nagkaroon ng konting kalampag nung about 3 y/o na (tie rod lang naman)
    - ganda ng handling (is it because medyo mas mababa sya?)
    - lumulusot yung rear arm rest papunta sa trunk(ginagawang bat-cave ng mga anak ko hehe)
    - Medyo mahal yung CD changer na para sa unit nya, ayaw ko naman magpalit ng hu kasi wala akong makita na may separate control for the antenna (when in tuner operation).
    - medyo maliit yung trunk nya
    - OK yung driver's view, kayang-kaya ko itutok-dikit sa wall without getting off the car.

    Corolla:
    - OK ang accelaration
    - parang mas tahimik yung engine even when the a/c is on
    - seems the car has a bigger interior space, pero specs wise mas maliit sya than civic, duh??
    - Walang naging problem sa suspension.
    - Parang mas-smooth yung engine when idling, yung Civic kasi lakas ng vibrations sa kambio when idling.
    - with 4 passengers on board, mas maganda hatak nya than civic
    - Safety features mas OK
    - mas gusto ko porma ng civic
    - i think the civic sounds better when at higher RPM, medyo parang tunog-hirap yung corolla pag over 4Krpm na. havent tried top wpeed tho - kakahiya kay erpats hehe

Mahirap mag-decide which is better, if you have the budget, get both hehe (j/k). I'm sure that whichever you choose, you can't go wrong, both cars are exellent

Pareho pala tayo anonimous, pero mas matipid nga ba talaga Civic sa Corolla? Mga ilang km/l natatakbo nyo?

hindi ko na masyado matandaan (I sold the car nung late 2001) pero to the tune of 11-12kpl city yung civic, slightly less naman yung corolla. not much difference but civic is still more economical sa gas. We'll siguro I must qualify my statement kasi regular drive lang naman ako, bihirang-bihira yung hataw.
