Altis 1.6V or 1.8V?

Hello everyone!

We're planning to get an Altis sometime soon. We have already inquired at Toyota Alabang, and the 1.6V looked like a good package overall. But they're still selling the soon-to-be phased out 1.8V at a largely discounted price, probably just to "get rid" of the units. We're not anymore considering the 2.0V because it's already expensive.

After the "first round" of negotiations with the sales agent:

The 1.6V has 15K discount, and has free LTO registration and insurance. Monthly payment for 3 years will be Php22,195; Php14,883 for 5 years.

The 1.8V has 50K discount, and also has free LTO registration and insurance. Monthly payment for 3 years will be Php25,340; Php16,992 for 5 years.

After discounts and all other shizz, the 1.8V will only be Php85,000 more expensive than the 1.6V (Php985,000 and Php900,000, respectively). This has given us a dilemma, since for less than Php100K, we'll be getting a more powerful and upscale car that's really a big upgrade from our 1995 Corolla XE.

My concern is, which do you think is the better buy, basing on the deal package and specs of the car? Is the 1.8V still worth buying considering that it will be completely phased out soon?

All comments and opinion will be greatly appreciated!

If you can afford it, I think you should definitely go for the 1.8V cuz for only 85k "more", you are getting a lot of extras which are useful...

- 1.8L engine
- HID headlights w/ auto on
- auto on wipers
- leather seats
- powered driver's seat

And I'm sure you can get a bit more discount than the 50k being offered...

Oo nga po, mukhang better value talaga yung 1.8 dahil kasi sa laki ng discount. Not to mention the other luxury goodies like the ones you mentioned, as well as the more powerful engine. Sana sa ibang dealership may mas magandang offer .

Huwag padalos padalos Sir! If these deal you are mentioning in this thread is an in-house package, Im sure mataas ang rate na to. Its either 52% or 54% for five years and 33% to 36% for three years. Name of the game is haggle. If you can beat them with a PO or bank loan approval, much better.

In-house po 'yan. I agree with you sir, haggle naman talaga muna kami. We are yet to visit banks and other Toyota dealers to look for better deals.

I would say go for the 1.8V

Compared to the Altis, Mitsu Japan made (CBU) Lancer EX is a better buy.

If I am not mistaken, Daihatsu Indonesia manufactures the Altis for Toyota.

Go for the 1.8V, its more upscale and with the added ammenities, its worth the price premium. Just try and haggle some more, maybe get an even bigger discount.

Ah, ok. Daihatsu manufactures the Camry units too (sold as Daihatsu Altis) so I thought they manufacture the Corollas also because that'll be more streamlined, businesswise.

Anyway, still, a Japan CBU is better. Even spec for spec, Lancer EX is way ahead.

The Lancer is nice and all but the TS was only asking about the two corolla variants. Resale value and maintenance especially with the tons of surplus parts will really ease the mind of the buyer.

Go for the 1.8V, since they are going to sell them at relatively low price you may want to ask for additional discount and freebies from you SA if you want to purchase this particular unit.
