Gud day mga sir! Help naman po, my friend is planning to buy a 2nd hand car. Budget po is between 40-70k(eto lang po kaya ng budget niya, pero meron na nakatabi for future repairs). His choices are the mitsubishi galant, nissan altima, or the toyota corona(pero medyo mahal pa 2nd hand nito). He already studied some ups & downs of the vehicles pero syempre he still has NO experience sa mga model na to.

    Question po is; What is the best buy in terms of;
    =reliability?
    =availability & cost of parts?
    =gas consumption?
    =etc.?

Hope to hear from you mga sir.. Thanks in advance.

Same year model din po.

    a) corolla
    b) singkit
    c) familia

6th gen Galant naman, only get the GTi variant dahil yun lang ang may magandang makina. Super Saloon variants have either the 1.8L carb or the weaker 114hp 4G63 MPI.

The Corona is nothing special to talk about, pero safe and reliable choice eto. It is not as fast as the Altima and the GTi, pero maraming owners nagsasabi na matibay at matipid ito.

If he's into old midsize sedans, I'd suggest getting the Cefiro M/T instead. Late 90s na yan kaya mas bago. You can get one with a 100+k budget.

If you only have that budget up front, I doubt you have enough set aside for repairs.

Brakes, clutches, suspensions... All expensive. At this point, that Corona may need a new throttle body... the Galant will need the hydraulic tappets looked at...the Altima will likely need new ignition coils and a MAF....

And we're not looking at the cost of fixing up the AC yet, or busted fuel pumps... or borked automatics...

Midsized cars are fun... But prepare to spend as much as you pay up front for repairs within the next year or two. If you don't want to have so many headaches, eiyher spend more for a car in good condition or spend a crapload of money upfront to overhaul all the mechanical bits.

I had a project altima 2 years ago. believe me sobrang hirap maghanap ng parts! wala nga ko makita distibutor cap man lang.

The choices are 1.8 to 2L engine which in a way higher cost of maintenance Saka baka mahirap na humanap ng pyesa.
For the budget, corolla, nissan eccs, mazda 323/familia & lancer itlog.

I just ditch my Sentra ECCS for 50K. Try finding some of those models. 1.6L and Manual.

Next suggestion would be a 96-97 323 LX (BG body aka box type) kasi all powered na, matipid din sa gas at nice interior room and quality.

Thanks po sa mga reply sir.. My friend now is more on choosing the galant. Sa small size sedans naman, more on sentra B13 sya. Gusto lang nya magkaroon ng sariling auto with his own money.

Pero hinahanap nya talaga is yung in good condition, yung halos wala na ipapagawa.

Merong 145hp 2.0DOHC MPI GTi variant, 114hp 2.0SOHC MPI SS variant, and the 92hp 1.8L carb SS. Take note that the GTi is available only in manual form.

For old midsize sedans, make sure to get the manual transmission variant only if ease of maintenance and gas bills are of any importance to you at all. Also, I'd suggest you get something that is more expensive but has less or nothing else to fix rather than a cheap car that is a bottomless pit.

Personally, the GTi is the one variant worth getting. Still not practical, but among old midsized sedans in this price range, perhaps the most desirable.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

Mga sir, update lang po.My friend is still choosing, but now he is more into the Lancer singkit, Kia pride, & the Mazda 323 familia boxtype. out muna sa choices yung Corolla small body & the Sentra b13(mahal pa kc resale value, hirap maghanap ng 2nd hand na good condition na pasok sa budget.).

    Hoping for your replies. Thanks.

    the singkt has two variants:

a 12 valve sohc engine and a 16 valve dohc engine..the 12 valves were installed at the EL and GLx variant, while the 16 valve was installed at the GTi variant, imho.
