Hello! I'm a beginner driver with zero car background and would like to ask for your advice in getting a brand new car. With a budget of 800K, I'm planning to get an AT for city driving. My dilemma is in choosing which AT can handle the 1km stretch of steep incline on the way to my house. Closest comparison of the steepness would be that of basement/rooftop parking ramps. I understand that any MT car can handle slopes and will give a better FC but I prefer AT for convenience's sake. I was originally interested with the 1.2 CVT Mirage but I'm having second thoughts with its engine size. Currently, I'm looking at the 1.5G AT Vios. So what do you think? Any other suggestions?

To sum up, requirements are as follows:
    1. Budget: 800K
    2. must be AT
    3. can handle steep inclines
    4. fuel efficient
    5. durability & maintenance (planning to keep the car for atleast 5yrs)

By the way, max passengers in any given time will be 3 average sized adults.

    Thanks in advance!

i'm also considering this car. currently reading the ford philippines forum. so far, sa nabasa ko, parang maraming siyang issues at parang mababa yung fuel efficiency nya (around 7km/l for city driving)...

How about a Lancer EX (GLX AT) or City 1.5E or Jazz 1.5V? These cars are in the same price range as the Vios 1.5G AT.

As per suggestion from GTi on 2nd hand CRDi AT cars, some used Ford Focus TDCi can be had for 800k or less.

I'll check them out. Currently, Toyota gives out a 50K discount for their Vios G variants. Hopefully these other cars have good promos also...

every car models has its issues, it's just a matter of pros and cons. In an AT car driving habit plays a huge factor, marami nakakakuha ng mababang FC kasi sanay sila sa MT or mabigat ang paa nila and they are asking too much sa isang AT car.

i've seen a lot of jimnys in baguio... i mean, a lot... heard the electric company there has a fleet of manual jimnys... but i have seen several automatics there... for sure, the inclines there are significantly more difficult to pass than any inclines here in the metro...

1.5 G vios is perfect for you. zero knowledge at cars, fuel effecient, durability and maintenance. maganda rin sana ang city, but it exceeds the 800k budget

i find driving an avanza too big for me. subcompact's size are ok but i really prefer the size of microcars.

Malakas sa akyatan? Kahit anong car & brand, check the specs sheet regarding their torque curve, mas mataas na torque sa almost the same rpm, mas mababa na rpm to reach peak torque the better.

Vios 1.5G A/T is OK. Toyota engines have good low end torque which means it climbs pretty well. Fuel efficiency for this model isn't exactly spectacular though. Personally, I find it rather cramped, especially at the back. Plastics quality is horrible.

I'd prefer the 1.5L Jazz or City though. Interior space and materials are much better.

But then nothing beats the fuel efficiency and performance of diesels, especially when it comes to climbing. A 2nd hand diesel A/T would be nice.

I prefer brand new for less headaches. Brand new diesels are way out of budget for now... :D
