crv 4x2 and sportage crdi are on the top of my list kung ako tatanungin mo
Very though choices. I'll get the Sportage CRDi. May extra kapa for the accessories compared to CRV. Tucson ok din but it's common na sa road.

In these past years and (even) months, it is really becoming very clear that the unabated upward spiral of fuel prices will likely to continue in the coming years therefore so it is pruent to pick a vehicle that can weather through the proverbial "storm".
In terms of fuel efficiency and fuel prices, the Tucson CRDi 4x2 A/T (no m/t available, btw) is the best choice amongst the three. Consumer Reports gives the Tucson a better rating than the Sportage. However, the 2.0 CRDi does not have the VGT feature which is rather disappointing.
However, if Honda Phil. suddenly decides (at this point it seems unlikely) to release the CRV with the 2.2li CTD-i diesel (as in Europe) then the equation changes slightly. Overall, the CRV is the better rated CUV bet. the Tucson and Sportage. However, by carrying a Honda brand and being a diesel at that, the CRV will surely carry a price premium (or penalty, depends on how one sees it) which will surely funnel price conscious buyers directly to the Tucson CRDi's attractive/affordable price.
Ps: not so sure if Honda's 2.2li CTD-i has VGT.
Syempre CRV! Subok ko na ang CRV. Matipid sa fuel at maintenance basta hindi ka lang laspag magmaneho. Hindi ako bilib sa Korean car. Kung diesel ang gusto mo ay Innova, Adventure o Crosswind na lang.

You like Tucson?
Here's some important news about the vehicle:
Included among the 2007 recalls...

Hyundai
NHTSA Potential Affected Units: 128,300
Model:Tucson
Problem: On certain sport-utility vehicles, static air-bag deployment testing—conducted by NHTSA using fifth-percentile female dummies—indicated if a small-stature adult driver, not wearing a seat belt, is involved in a frontal or near frontal crash, deployment of the driver air bag may result in an insufficient margin of compliance as measured by the test dummy used in the NHTSA test.

Hindi naman din ako fifth percentile female. Hehehe. Sa barkada ko, isa lang ata ang pumasok sa classification na ganun (and she drives a Vios).
Recalls are a pretty normal thing. Wala namang perfect units. And most of the time, only a certain batch of units (identified via manufacture date or VIN numbers) are covered.
I just don't like recalls pertaining to a vehicle's propensity to explode, catch fire, etc. hehehe.![]()

GO SPORTAGE!!!!!!
naglipana dito samin ang mga kia and hyundai vans (2nd hand), ginagamit nilang pampasada, travelling at least 100km / day. in fact they are already a major competition to aircon and ordinary buses. so kung reliability ng hyundai and kia company lang naman ang pag uusapan, well i can say they are very reliable just by looking at these vans travelling across the bicol region carrying full pack of passengers (minsan over loaded pa).
I don't think Honda was ever excempt from these recalls. I've seen some of them on business and car mags in the past decade.
While out in the dunes in the middle east, I saw a lot of CRV's stuck in the sand with overheated transmissions/differentials... whatever you call them, and saw several Tucson's not having a problem getting up those Dunes alongside Pajero's and Landcruiser's. Only handicap for the Tucson would be that it couldn't tow a CRV out of the rut as it is not really designed for heavy duty offroading. The difference between the CRV and the Tucson is due to the fact that the Tucson has a switchable 4wd for low speeds only (helps it avoid getting stuck) while the CRV's is only for all wheather driving (maintains good traction in wet conditions).
Due to the recall, I am sure that the Tucson's coming out of the factories will be more perfect than ever. Only wish they would move the front wheels a bit forward for a better more stable stance.
My vote goes to the Tucson!!!
for a TUCSON CVVT a/t:
P130,000=3,250L of unleaded (*P40/L)=26,000kms of city road (*8km/L)
for a TUCSON 4x2 CRDi:
26,000kms of city driving=2363.63L of diesel (*11kms/L)=P80,363 (*P34/L)
Now, if u can commit ur 4x2 CRDi to cover ~67,600kms more than the CVVT a/t, that will cover for the difference. Beyond that figure, kikita na CRDi mo vs CVVT a/t....
OT, pano ba maglagay emoticons sa mobile navigation?
i don't like the Sportage. looking at it up close, i found the fit and finish to be of poor quality, and i'm not a big fan of the interior materials.
as far as the Tucson, i hate the styling....but if you like it then that shouldn't be a problem.
so by process of elimination, i pick the CRV. worse fuel economy, and more expensive, but i think it is a much better car overall.
Hey guys! I posted this forum write up days ago on the "Sportage vs. Tucson thread". Paki basa na lang... extra info... Ty. By the way, we have an '03 CR-V 4x2 and it sucks (only my youngest sister likes it coz she was the one who asked for it anyway). We also have an '05 Tribute and it sucks too (I like the sporty feel though - and the moonroof of course). My cousin recently bought an '07 CR-V 4x2 and he's also not totally happy with it... Di raw ganun kaganda ang ride... all hype! Read on bros!
"The Hyundai-KIA group merged some years ago. Hyundai was able to buy the ailing KIA (who was just into cars), while Hyundai was fortunate enough to have diversified interests (cars, heavy equipment, shipbuilding, electronics, etc.). Hence, Hyundai had more funds coz their eggs were not all in one basket, LUCKY. Although, KIA was the very first Korean car maker, who believe it or not, started with bicycles.
Gone are the days when Hyundai bought technology from Mitsubishi and virtually made knock-offs, and when KIA was tied-up with the Ford-Mazda group. Now the Hyundai-KIA group is a force to be reckoned with in the automotive industry worldwide with its own state-of-the-art manufacturing and testing facilities scattered around the globe, top-notch engineering & design teams, aggressive research & development, etc. In fact, KIA now utililizes European engineers & designers. They even hired as Head or Chief of their design and engineering teams the man who brought to the world, cars such as the new Beetle and the Audi TT. His name escapes me as of the moment.
With regards to CRDi, KIA was the very first asian make to adapt or adopt this technology, ahead of big brother Hyundai and way ahead of the Japs. The Europeans were of course the first in the world to utilize this by way of BMW if i'm not mistaken.
The Hyundai-KIA group is now ranked the number 6 car manufacturer in the world (in terms of units sold), with a goal of being in the Top 5 by the year 2010. Even ahead of Honda, who is currently number 9.
In the case of Sportage vs. Tucson, I think it will just boil down to personal preference. I mean, they basically come from the same manufacturing plants in Korea, with the same processes and standards. They even share the same platform. No biases, I prefer the Sportage coz for me it looks better in & out.
In terms of local warranty Hyundai does offer a 5-year term, but read the fine print, it's a 5-year/100,000KM warranty (whichever comes first). While KIA has a 3-year/110,000KM warranty (again, whichever comes first). Now the 5-year term sounds really good but your vehicle would have to ONLY run an average of 1,666kms per month for that duration to avail of it. It doesn't sound realistic, except if you really have an extensive fleet of cars in your garage. So 3-years/110,000kms for KIA sounds really good to me! No come-ons.
There may be more Tucsons than Sportages on the road now, but as per my queries, it's only because KIA has a very strong following & demand now in the Americas and Europe. The Koreans seem to give priority or preference to ship their production to these countries before ours. Remember though that KIA has been present in our country for the longest time. As I see it, the distributor has been really committed in bringing alternative cars to the Philippines. The 1st gen Sportage was introduced in the mid-90's, while the new one was introduced way before the Tucson. OT: KIA also had foresight and was way ahead of all other manufacturers in the small car segment by introducing the Picanto, if you noticed, almost everybody followed suit. Sayang lang because of the supply and demand problems before.
In a nutshell, these are both very good and decent vehicles. At par or even better than their jap counterparts now. They may lack "options" or "features" but bear in mind that our importers have to be "practical" at times. I'm sure they can load it with all goodies possible but how many then can afford their vehicles. It's your choice!
As I understand the Sportage is available as follows:
Sportage 2.0L GAS 4x2 CVVT - 969,000Php
Sportage 2.0L CRDi 4x4 - 1,120,000Php
Both automatic tranny only with shiftronic.
My 2 cents... FYI. Thank you. Happy hunting!"
