Intend to buy 2nd car. Which is better?
Forester, especially if it's the 2.5 XT (but 2.0X is fine). If you need the 7 seats or the diesel, Fortuner or Santa Fe or Montero Sport.
Kung yung Forester ay 2.0X, malakas sa gas yan at hindi rin gaano kabilis. Captiva has the same hp output, much more torque at diesel pa.
But if you are getting a Captiva, might as well get the Santa Fe, kahit mas luma ng isa o dalawang taon. Pareho rin naman silang made in Korea, pero mas malawak at may quality ang Santa Fe.
A second car? Why not a Sorento diesel? Lower price point than any of the above for the most space and power.
EDIT: Oops... 2009 pala. What price range are you working with? The best choice will depend on the mileage of the vehicles in question.

Ang pagbalik ng comeback...
since i know how to remap an edc16c39, i would get the captiva given only those two options.
Budget is around 800 to 900 k. The forester has around 63 k km the captiva 48 k km.
2009 na Forester with 63tkms?!Ano yan, pinang-taxi?
2.5XT ba yan o 2.0X?
Now I am most positive that you should stay away from that car.
And then again, 48tkms for a 3 year old car is a bit high too.
Ang 2008 Santa Fe 4x2 ng tito ko 41tkms ngayon, binili last month for just 800k. This was one of the other SF's that we considered when we were hunting for Santa Fe's. Really nice car, with just 36tkms. We just picked the one we now have because it was more loaded. Hyundai Santa Fe AT - 07 | Cars for sale Quezon City | AyosDito.ph
2008-2009 2.5L Montero or a 2.5/3.0L D4D Fortuner
I wouldn't want to gamble on a Chevrolet on a 2.0X Forester that has a ridiculously high odometer.
Pero kung between the two, Forester na'ko. Just ask the owner san work niya. Baka naman parati highway (SLEX) driving yan papunta sa opisina niya. Mas ok yan kaysa sa low-mileage car na bugbog naman sa traffic.

For me, i dont trust the captiva. Forester is fine....however, if you are not in a hurry, look for a santa fe, sorento or fortuner.
We already have the fort. Sub compact suv would be fine kaya Itong dalawa ang choices. Hiram mag choose cuz both have their pros and cons but they also have casa records naman.
If you are really bent on choosing between the Captiva and Forester only, I'd suggest you look for units with lower mileage. Its OK even if its older by a year or so.
Another car I'd suggest is the previous gen Sorento. That was produced uptil 2009, and the last batches would fit your budget. Unlike the Santa Fe, 4x4 variants are easy to find. Its just a 5 seater though, but if its no biggie to you, its a fine car to have. The 1st gen Sorento is well respected in Europe as an excellent SUV that conforms to the traditional qualities expected from a true SUV and yet is cheaper to run as compared to its more upscale rivals.
