ALTIS 1.6G 2009 VS CIVIC FD 1.8S 2007 VS CITY 1.3S 2009 Please help me decide..

Me and my wife are planning to get a car before December this year.
We are choosing between ALTIS 1.6G 2009 vs CIVIC FD 1.8S 2007 vs CITY 1.3S 2009..

I did some research on the 3 car models and according to the details, i am ripped between the altis and civic..
Please help me more on finally deciding which one we should get.

Preferably, I want a car with good mileage/consumption, easy access/low cost of spare parts, riding comfort and of course reliable engine specially the car might be used for long distance driving (manila - ilocos norte).

Given the choices, I'd go with the FD Civic. The 2009 Altis 1.6G (a/t) is very comfortable and reliable however the power may be lacking for the long drive, especially when you load up. The City 1.3 will not be as comfortable and when you load up the car, fuel consumption on the highway won't be as good as the engine will work harder.

What is your budget range?

From my experience, these were the common issues on the Civic FD (most happened between 40,000kms to 65,000kms):
- Power steering hose leaks
- Wheel bearing failure
- drive belt bearing failure

In fairness, replacement parts (Except for the PS hose which was OEM) were affordable and worked well.

our budget range is 300-350k po..i saw FD 1.8s 07 model priced at 320-350k and altis 1.6g 09 model at almost the same price..with regards to the mentioned issues of FD sir, are those issues considered major or something minor which can be waived later for repair?
how bout the riding comfort po? i am 6' 1", will i fit in the drivers seat of the altis? how about the altis sir?any issues when mileage ranges reaches 50k-above kms?thanks po sir..

sir vinj and sir Lakwatsero, lets say, the previous owner of both altis and civic were not that good with regards to the maintenance of the car, which of the two is much betterand cheaper to repair.. and the reliability after repair?

i'll remove the city from the list just because it is comparing oranges and apples.
between the Altis and the Civic, i would go for the Civic. why?
the Altis 2009 belongs to the 10th Gen, hence, may mga issues yan sa rack and pinion, hence, if you decide on getting the altis, make sure na napalitan na R&P nyan, otherwise medyo masakit sa ulo.

space wise, the Civic, i think, is bigger interior wise. medyo masikip ang back seats ng altis
power-wise, Civic has an edge.
FC wise, medyo pareho lang, considering the Civic has bigger displacement. The 2009 altis kasi is hindi pa dual VVTi, hence, medyo mas mataas FC nya compared to the 10.5th Gen na naka dual VVTi na.

however, maintenance costs for the Altis would be lower (except perhaps if it needs a rack and pinion replacement na.)

looks wise? i prefer the altis (oo naman, i drive one din eh....hehehehe)
ride quality? the altis would be on the comfortable and softer side. i feed that the FD is a bit stiffer.

however, the City, is a much smaller car, with the right FC, and power. It is much smaller though sa loob, but i feel na mas maganda sya aesthetics wise compared to the two larger sedans.

and oh, get an automatic one..... if you choose the Altis, consider the Altis V variant.

+1 on the Civic FD, it offers a good balance on utility, performance, and fuel efficiency.

Don't bother with the City 1.3S. The 1.3L engine may be a tempting idea for fuel efficiency (due to its small displacement) but they fare less in fuel efficiency compared to the 1.5L model.

I have a 2009 Altis 1.6G MT. 90T km, no steering problems. Our family had a 2009 Altis 2.0V, sold at 50T km, no steering problems either.

Meanwhile, my aunt's FD has engine support problems, aircon problems, power window problems, etc. So I wouldn't say that the FD is any less problematic than the Altis in general. Of course, reliability varies per unit especially for cars of this age.

My '09 Altis has exactly the same fuel consumption as my '15 Altis, even if the former doesn't have Dual VVTi and only has a 5MT.

The 4AT Altis is terrible. Very slow response and doesn't like to downshift. In comparison, the automatic FD responds quickly to throttle inputs.

Even for the manual, the FD is still better. The 10th gen has a very long throw shifter, which spoils the fun and feels quite awkward. The 11th gen fixed it, but of course the 11th gen is much more expensive.

The FD has very hard seats though, and coupled with the stiffer suspension, means that it's really not as comfy as the Altis.

In terms of interior space, the FD is much better too. I find my knees hitting the Altis' front seats when I sit in the rear. The Altis has a bigger trunk though.

The FD also has more power than the Altis. At low revs, they're about equal since the Altis has more low end torque but an inherently weaker engine. Once you go past 4000 rpm though, the FD outshines the Altis all the way to its 6800 rpm redline.

Overall, the Altis is more comfortable, but the FD is the better car. The Civic was more expensive at the time when they were both brand new, but now they're about equal in the secondhand market, which makes the Civic a better buy. [emoji4]

Both are easy to repair. The Civic needing those parts replaced early is more of an annoyance; parts are readily available. Our 2007 Altis is already at 120,000kms and none of those parts have needed replacement unlike on the 2009 FD.

Easy to say Toyota by reputation alone. But Civic is just as easy to maintain, its just annoying since those replacement parts become sort of consumable if you're unlucky enough.

On personal preference alone, I'll get an Altis since I'm more familiar with Toyotas, as is my mechanic. But if you see a Civic in much better condition than a similarly priced Altis, go for that instead.

anyway, yesterday i went hunting for civic fd and altis..
luckily i had the opportunity to test a civic fd 09 AT, though AT, i suspect the feeling of riding it is the same as that of the MT variant..my impression was, i like it..no, i loooooooove it..

while i was approaching the car, to me, it looks like the interior is as small as any other compact cars..but once i sat inside, i said wow..parang magical, looks small from outside, but very spacious at comfortable siya in the inside..and the dashboard, its one part of the car that i really, really love, well aside from the engine, because i know engine must come first..am i right po?

we own isuzu sportivo 11 and dmax 10 ls but i really cant compare and never had the feeling of excitement to drive the fd..kahit nung bagong kuha palang po yung 2 units namin, hindi po ako ganito kaexcited to have a car..lalo na, if ever, this car were planning to buy will be my first personal car..ung dalawa kasi, family car namin..im sharing it with my parents and with my 2 brothers..

i did not bother haggling for the price because i prefer driving MT, but the owner said its priced at 420k, it didnt bother me because the car itself is in its mint condition pa, so i think its just fair?..

one thing i would like to ask again mga sir/mam..is it true that the only difference of the 06-08 vs 09 civic fd is observed only in the exterior?engine/technology wise, are they the same?

at this moment i really, really love and im convincing my wife that we should have the fd now..pero para mas makapagdecide ako, para mafinalize our decision, im planning on trying yung altis 1.6g 09 today..i wasnt able to try it yesterday kasi may nagtest drive daw na prospect buyer..hopefully hindi pa nakuha para atleast may idea ako kung ano feeling ng altis..

I'm 6'3", no problem sa long ride. family members 5'8" up, maluwag pa din sa back seat

Same lang ba a/c compressor and ignition coil ng 09 and 11 altis? If same lang, make sure na okay pa yang mga yan sa unit na kukunin mo. Naka 34k kami last month on my friends 09 altis, pinalitan ung ac comp nya. Alang surplus sa banawe and wala rin makita sa apalit. Compressor alone is 24k na. Sa ignition coil, i think 2k each(forgot the exact amount.) x4 sya. Sabi sa pinagbilhan namin sirain nga raw ignition coil ng altis usually nasa 50-60T kms. nag start masira.

For 07 civic and 09 city, dami surplus na ac compressor nyan and other engine parts sa banawe.. Sa altis wala/rare ang surplus kaya youll end up buying orig or so-so replacement parts lang.

Go for the Altis since it's newer of the two. Don't bother with the City. Power is adequate. I like the low-end tuning of Toyotas, doesn't show on paper but power and torque delivery is smooth. Easier to drive economically.

FD Civic is maporma but has lots of small issues as mentioned, including the transmission and engine mounting. Hondas like to rev and if you're not careful with your right foot, it's gonna guzzle away like a drunkard.

Hi sir. Our family owns both models, Civic FD and 1.6G Altis. Both manual transmission, although different year models, 2006 Civic and 2011 Altis. The main difference will be the drive.

The Civic steering and handling is better, a bit more sporty than the Altis. The Altis is geared towards comfort. The steering of the Altis is vague versus the Civic. That's my biggest gripe on the Altis. Suspension on civic is more firm for sporty driving, Altis is more comfortable for cruising. Suspension is better on the Altis if you are after comfort.

In terms of regular maintenance (change oil, etc.), Civic is every 10k kilometers, while the Altis is every 5k. So factor that in when you think of the total maintenance cost.

Rear legroom is slightly better in the civic I think, but a very slight difference.

Our civic is now 85k kilometers, while our Altis is 25k kilometers.

As I drive both regularly on a weekly, I would say I prefer to drive the Civic.
