For me, I prefer my a/t car vs my m/t for whatever road conditions!
Yung a/t ko kasi may manual mode, pero yung m/t ko walang a/t mode.hehehe
Seriously, mga bagong modelo ngayon (model 2010 & up) pag nagamay mo yung sportronic cvt parang ayaw mo ng gumamit ng m/t.
Yan yung realization ko nung dinala ko sa baguio yung asx-se ko (in comparison with my m/t), no sweat, no tears... But full of joy & full of fun.
On my way up to baguio, I used my 4WD. Going down, paddle shifters naman. After Baguio, back again to a/t D-mode.
Finally, able to cope up with 18hrs of driving and strolling to Baguio then way back home sound & safe!

What is a continuously variable transmission?

A continuously variable transmission, or CVT, is a type of automatic transmission that provides more useable power, better fuel economy and a smoother driving experience than a traditional automatic.

Driving a car with a CVT

The controls for a CVT are the same as an automatic: Two pedals (no clutch) and a P-R-N-D-L-style shift pattern. But while an automatic transmission has a set number of gear ratios (a.k.a. speeds), usually 4, 5 or 6, the CVT can constantly change the relationship of engine speed to car speed. When driving a car with a CVT, you never hear or feel the transmission shift -- it simply raises and lowers the engine speed as needed, calling up higher engine speeds (or RPMs) for better acceleration and lower RPMs for better fuel economy while cruising.

    Peace!
Sometimes not only battle ng car dito, meron ding battle ng vocabulary.
Hope we can share good things here, in the end we can use to educate ourselves & learn from our mistakes.
m/t, a/t, cvt... etc kung saan ka mas gamay, "it would be the best for you"!

But, Technology help our lives become easier in many ways kasama na dyan and "driving"!

The duel between the two transmissions wouldn't end. Some prefer automatics while others prefer to have its counterpart. You can never say that automatics are favorable in general, the same way with manual.

Automatics doesn't equate automatically to practicality. It has its own pros and cons, like how other things do.

Manual on the other hand doesn't equate automatically to cheaper maintenance.

The said two transmissions will last several decades as long as proper maintenance and care is done. It will break down eventually, yes. But there will be a fix to each. On which of the two is more expensive, it depends on what component will need replacement.

Personally, I still prefer manual. Because of the attachment to the car that I feel whenever I use it. I would be a hypocrite though if I would say that on some occasions I never did think that my life would be a lot easier if I was using an automatic. I did, several times. Mostly when I'm stuck at stop-and-go traffic. But when I tackle the open roads, I just shrugged off that thought and enjoyed the rest of the trip.

This Christmas season though, I'm currently driving an automatic. For the sole reason that I go to places that are always experiencing heavy traffic, and the car that I am driving doesn't come in manual. I admit, it's such a joy to drive around without being tired clutching between gears.

I don't mind driving a manual though. Neither do I when I'm given an automatic. But when I'm asked what of the two transmissions will I pick, you know my choice.

Bottom line is, the choice among people whether on what of the two transmissions are the best will still depend on their preferences and likeness. We just have to respect their own opinions, and not bash them about petty mentalities that are tied up to their transmission preference ( i.e. -- pang-chicks ang automatic )

Aside from Mitsubishi ASX, what other Japanese car brand/model employs the CVT?

I drive both MT and AT. As long as there is no problem with the transmission, im fine with both.
