    Nissan has the Navara Brute:
    *dual air bags
    *power windows and locks
    *no lsd
    *no abs
    *alloy wheels

Mitsubishi has the Strada GLX 4x4:
    *dual airbags
    *power windows and locks
    *abs with ebd
    *lsd
    *steel rims

    Isuzu has the Dmax LT:
    *no airbags
    *no power windows and locks
    *lsd
    *no abs
    *steel rims with hubcap
    *isuzu nameplate

And then there are the China trucks in the same or even lower price range like the JMC Compadre, Foton Thunder, Great Wall Wingle.

Just wondering which would be a good, basic work truck for mixed on road and off road use including recreational weekend use.

Toyota does not sell a workhorse version of the Hilux locally.

I'd rather get anything from the 2nd hand market than buying brand new bare. just my thoughts though. For Capability alone, i'll go home with the DMax

I think the company would fare better with a brand new truck. And we dont need the additional bells and whistles of the top line models. . Just something that starts with one crank and can respond to calls. On and off road and during bad weather,

What about the Ranger XL 4x4 instead? Higher flood-fording capability. Added bonuses include the bigger space and better looks

Hey Doc, from the specs you posted i'll go with the Strada. It's the most equipped and it's the cheapest as well.

Don't know if its engine are as bulletproof as the DMAX though. Problema din kasi minsan yan, baka mamaya sa alanganin na lugar kailangan pa-gas tapos pangit quality ng fuel. At least, Isuzu, mas peace of mind pagdating sa abuse.

But that's just me. Ill take the Strada tas close 2nd yung DMAX.

What about the Hilux E, doc? Or the Frontier Bravado (subok na tibay nito, news cabs palang...)

I'd put my money on the DMax.

Our company uses the bare-bones Hilux Js though (not 4WD).

    3.0L na pala yung LT

For company use, between the 3, DMAX ang choice ko, due to easy maintenance and fuel efficiency.

Its the lack of abs thats kind of a turn off for the dmax, though.

For hardcore workhorse use with lots of off roading, I'd go with the D-Max. Wide max torque range is a boon. I believe this is also the only one among the three where you won't be feeling much of the effects of turbo lag. I've driven the 4x2 LT (IPV variant) and assuming that they have the same brake system, I'd say the brakes bite very well despite the rear drums and lack of ABS. Ride quality definitely isn't the best, though handling is quite acceptable for a truck.

If the "recreation" part is more important, you'd probably appreciate the Strada's bigger backseat and more comfortable ride in general. The power amenities are also a swaying point for me, though having them installed in the D-Max shouldn't be much of a problem. If it helps, I'd also mention that the Strada has a much heavier steering than the D-Max.
