    From Top Gear:

    http://www.topgear.com.ph/features/f...ef=home_feed_1

ERRATUM: The XV pictured here has leather seats, not fabric as shown up top.

There are several more features that are not listed but we'll let the pundits here at tsikot point these ones out.

^^^TopGearPH should have pitted the Forester 2.0i-L against the CRV 2.0S and CX5 FWD 2.0 Pro. The XV is more in the likes of the CX3 and HRV.

Mazda CX-5 for me kasi hindi CVT. I wouldn't buy a car with a CVT priced above ₱1mn. Pero kung hindi CVT yung CR-V, tie sila ng CX-5 sakin, but that's just me.

Care to elaborate why? I mean if there is something wrong with a car that has cvt in that price range...

^^^ I have no idea where all this CVT scare is coming from but CVTs nowadays are much better than those 10-15 years ago. CVT issues before maybe attributed to system unreliability but a lot are caused by poor maintenance.

Nothing wrong with a cvt in any price range, especially now they are as reliable as a traditional automatic. It's just my personal preference that if I'm shelling out above 1 million pesos, I'd prefer if it had a manual or a traditional automatic.

Hmm, that's interesting. I've been also thinking why there are no cvts yet for new diesels these days. Could have something to do with the powerband or torque of the engine.

Are there still a lot of cars offering a traditional Automatic in lets say above the 1-2M price range? i think only the pick-ups and PPV carry the traditional automatics.
Most of the cars in the above 1-2M mark seem to carry the newer more sophisticated Automatics like dual clutch, CVT, DSG, etc.

I think the premise behind this comparo was that these 3 are all-new releases for 2017 and are priced very close to each other.

Finally got to test out the CR-V gas. Here's how I compared all three:

Road noise is least heard in the Mazda, with the XV and CR-V very close to each other (no instrumentation used so it's my subjective ear doing the measuring).

The XV sounds best when you put the throttle down and it just feels faster than both the Mazda and CR-V. Parking is also definitely easier on the XV as it is a little bit smaller, after all, but visibility is just better.

The XV and CX-5 feel a bit more planted on the ground in turns as I noticed the Honda had more body roll. I don't recommend breaking late on the Honda.

I didn't have the opportunity to go to NLEX or SLEX but I think the CX-5 would be better there if you're driving your wife and kids. If you plan to do a lot of overtaking, the XV would be a better choice.

My personal opinion is that the XV is a slightly better and more sporty drive than the CX-5 Pro, but only because of the AWD and the smaller size. Suspension and comfort is great on both cars.

The CR-V is just not in the same league, imho. For this price range (₱1.5M), you'd have to be a hardcore Honda fan to choose the CR-V gas over the CX-5 Pro or the TOTL XV.

I'm not quite sure how the XV and the CX-5 Pro are in terms of reliability compared to the CR-V gas. Time will tell, I guess.

If you're being practical though, the Mazda has Yojin3. Or better yet, get a diesel that's not on a CVT.

The previous platform XV has been in the country since 2013, the same with the first gen CX5. They are about as old as the 4th gen CRV. There are more CX5s, XVs, and Foresters (SJ) on the road since then compared to the 4th gen CRV. I guess that speaks well of their reliability.

The new XV and CX5 are still similar to the previous platform, with slight modifications only in looks and features.

Only the Forester outsold the CRV during that period. The CRV was still a relatively good seller in its dwindling CUV segment:
