may gusto na naman akong i-compare kung maari lang

i'm considering putting together a work vehicle to be used as a people & luggage mover. isip ko, pick-up tapos lagyan ng canopy for that extra luggage space (or for lugging around my dogs or my bikes hehehe). dont plan to use it off-road, so i'm not considering the 4x4 versions.

so ang choices ko so far, yung Hi-lux 2.7L 4x2 gas or yung DMax 3.0L 4x2 diesel...both in A/T versions

so far eto ang nakikita ko:

    1) Hi-lux....(na test-drive ko na)
    - nice quiet gas engine, power moves but nothing remarkable at the test-drive speed i drove under 50 kph
    - nice roomy & modern interior w/ lots of nooks and crannies for storage, drinks, sunglasses...nice warm pleasing color overall
    - with driver airbag, but none for the passenger side
    - rear seats fold up for space option
    - nice suspension feel, perhaps due in part to the coil springs in front
    - cool modern look, looks bigger than it is...maybe even bloated appearance
    - nice exterior, tayo parang 4x4
    - doors close with a solid sound and feel
    - OEM stereo w/ 4 speakers...will need an upgrade
    - at 1.048M, more expensive than the DMAX

    2) Dmax...(for test drive pa)
    - reputable diesel engine-maker, don't know how quiet or noisy it is
    - interior roomy but a bit drab, seat fabric looks cheap, dashboard looks old-fashioned
    - with dual airbags
    - rear seats don't fold up for space option
    - supposed to have smoother ride b/c of new flexy-ride suspension...will find out tomorrow. uses torsion bars up front (hmmmm)
    - classic lines, more conservative shape, mas square..but very masculine and doesn't pretend to be bigger than it is with any excessive use of metal
    - nice exterior, also stands like its 4x4 brother
    - doors don't shut so solidly...heavier than sedan doors but doesn't close as solidly as the hilux
    - Clarion sound system w/ six speakers...nicer than that on the hilux
    - at 1.015M for the A/T version, cheaper than the hilux

based on this, and what you know about both vehicles...which would you choose for this frequent road rider?

    thanks in advance!!!

thanks mbt!......did not notice that b/c the dmax was in the dealer's dark garage and the brochures don't give any measurements either hehehe. another point for the hilux.

sidebar lang, when you install a canopy on a pick-up, will the rain get in, or water from a high-pressure hose when washing the truck? carryboy guarantees no leaks from the canopy but what about through the gate?

Since gas vs deisel engine, I'm guessing the dmax might have more torque... please correct me if I'm wrong.

If this is the case, check your need. Kung hauling, sa diesel ka na. Aside from more mileage because its a diesel, it's got more torque.

Pero kung japorms, at may extra cash ka naman for petrol... Hilux na lang! And its got more creature comfort... its quieter, its got better interior looks, beige color... etc.

cardo is right, this is not a CRD engine w/c was really disappointing. i really thought it was...sa alterra lang pala ang CRD

anyway, just finished my test drive on the dmax 3.0LS...

    impressions:
    - clickety-clak-clak!! man, its noisy.... as if you could actually hear the tappets hitting away hehehe
    - slow take-off from a full stop, and couldn't appreciate its higher torque claim. but once it got up to around 50kph, the acceleration got much better.
    - matatag...but shocks recover quickly and pulls the body back in line right away. its nothing like an Old Man Emu suspension system that's for sure
    - i had to twist more than usual to reach for the seatbelt
    - the interior is depressing...really!

bottom-line: to upgrade from my current ranger intercooled turbo, the DMAX 3.0LS wouldn't be my choice.

New DMax is a 3.0 CRDI Engine, same engine from the Alterra that can go up 160 kph at no sweat.!!

New Hilux 4x2 2.7L gas or Isuzu DMax 3.0 LS diesel?
