Are you sure about that? I have a Toyota and it does have problems from time to time... Toyotas are not bulletproof.

And oh... Altis parts in sari-sari stores? Maybe for the old Corollas...

    ======

Under 900K... my 1st pick would be the Honda Civic... here's the specs from motioncars.com

    http://www.motioncars.com/carchart/h...onda_civic.htm

The 1.8s variant is just priced just right with the engine that you are getting.

My second pick would be the Mazda3... specs again from motioncars.com

    http://www.motioncars.com/carchart/h...004_mazda3.htm

Yes... it'll be slower than the Civic 1.8 on a straight line but handles better (and looks better also IMO).

Agree with mazdamazda, the modern Toyotas are not cheap to maintain; yung panahon ng Big body and Lovelife oo mas mura maintenance kaysa Honda pero simula nung ZZ 1st gen Altis nagbago ang Corolla mas naging elite na so ayun pati parts and maintenance Honda like na....

Back to topic. Civic 1.8S ako hands down for a P900k budget. SO let at look at your criteria and why I would pick the Civic... Byu the way forget the Chevrolet, sakit sa ulo nyan pag dating sa parts takaw gasolina pa.... As for Nissan, I find the new Sentra the most boring and unappealing car so I will skip it too.... So ako Civic, Corolla, or 3 lang sa choices pagpipilian ko....

    1. Safety - parepareho lang yan 3 na yan to be honest....
    2. Design - Exterior - this is subjective some people like the conservative Corolla, some like futuristic Civic, and some like the sporty Mazda 3. Ikaw lang makakadecide nito....
    3. Design - Interior - Civic for me. Nakakaaliw yung digital speedometer... Legroom is very good for a compact, but I think the Corolla is a bit bigger. The Corolla is ok pero boring looks and whats with that fake wood?
    4. Fuel Economy - Mazda 3 is probably the worse among the 3 kasi mabigat sya for 1.6L. I think the Civic still reigns here since it has a superior power/weight ratio among the 3. I get around 10.5-11km/L city driving with my 1.8V AT Civic....

Biased ba ako? Probably, probably not... Pero I also went through your choices myself last month and I did choose the Civic afterall and those are my reasoning why I chose the Civic myself....

    Makabagong makinang diesel
    Junep Ocampo

Oh yeah we forgot the Focus CRDi. Pero kapos yung budget mo kasi over P1M yung Focus CRDi. May ibang lower end Focus pero CRDi version is the only one really worth considering....

+1 on what Mazdamazda said... you CANNOT find Corolla parts at the sari-sari store, anymore... a lot of relatives have old Corollas, and yes, it's very easy to find parts for them (although if you use the cheapest parts, they'll break more easily...)

But now my cousin owns an Altis... and for some parts, he has to send out to Banawe like us non-Toyota owners have to do. The ZZ engine in the Corolla is completely different from that of the old ones (4AFE), and it is not as bulletproof and not as cheap to maintain.

The Corolla is still a good car, considering the engine is relatively torquey and fuel-efficient, but the new Altis is heavier than the old one, so fuel economy may suffer.

Focus on the toyota, nissan, honda and mazda po...

    1. Safety

    3. Design - Interior

    1. Safety -

You can't go wrong with any of the more moderm cars. The Mazda3, Ford Focus and Honda Civic are all very stiff designs and should provide excellent crash survivability. The Optra, Sentra and current Lancer are a generation behind, the old Lancer and the previous Corolla don't score as well as the newer designs here in terms of impact safety, but the new Corolla and upcoming Lancer should be very safe.

    2. Design - Exterior

It's personal preference, mostly. I like the looks of the Mazda3 and the new Lancer... followed by the Civic... the Focus and Corolla share third.

    3. Design - Interior

The Mazda3, hands down. Best seats, best seating position. The Focus and Corolla, maybe second place... I haven't ridden the new Corolla over long distances, so I can't tell you how comfortable it is. The new Civic looks good inside, but I have a big issue with seat comfort. But if you're not a big person, it's not a big deal.

The Sentra has a cramped rear... the new Lancer, haven't had enough seat time (looks good, though, from when we saw it at the motor show), the old Lancer has a cramped rear, the Optra has a decent but bland interior.

    4. Fuel Economy

It's hard to say. The Civic's engine is economical for a 1.8, but the new Corolla uses the same 1.6 as before. In the previous Altis, this engine gave great economy, but the new Corolla is heavier. The Mazda3 and Focus suffer in traffic due to their heavy bodies, but they actually get pretty good economy on the highway... especially with the revisions to the Mazda3's 1.6 MZR. The Optra? Forget about it... ...it's better than before, but I don't know if it's actually good... but the engine and transmission are terribly sluggish. The old Lancer should be decent, the Sentra, merely average.

    5. Experience po siguro ninyo with these cars...

If the seats aren't an issue, the Civic is a great buy. The Mazda3 is a very good choice, too... it gets a bad rap for fuel economy, but when I drove it, I was actually impressed... it's just that it's a heavy car, and people press the gas harder to make it move in traffic... if you drive it normally, you can get decent economy. The Focus provides much more kit than any car under 900k... including rear airconditioning (cool, literally... )... it's worth a look. The 1.8 engine isn't as good as the Civic's, but it's got lots of power. And the Focus has the best chassis and suspension in the class, period. If sporty driving is your thing, this is your car. But if your idea of "sporty" is drag-racing, it's the Civic that comes out on top.

The new Corolla? We have to do a more extensive test. Personally, I'd say: why pay new money for old tech? Just buy an old Altis... ...the new one seems to have a much softer suspension and electric steering... which seems too light, to boot... so it may not be confidence-building to drive. Not an issue in the city, but that combination doesn't bode well for long-distance driving.

The rest? Well, if they appeal to you, it's your money...

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

Sir Help pong mag-decide...sedan cars under 900K
