I believe those new higher end engines are currently not yet available in Audi's local A4 lineup.

    The old 163PS 20v 1.8T slots below the 200PS 2.0 TFSI engine and above the 1.8-derived 130PS 20v 2.0 engine in Audi's global A4 lineup.

In some markets like in the US for example, the A4 lineup start with the 200PS 2.0 TFSI as the base engine.

    About the V6 A4, the new A4 has a 255PS 3.2 liter FSI V6(currently not available in the RP), this replaces the old A4's 220PS 3.0 V6.

    Ako Audi naman para maiba.

Kahit 1.8T na luma basta quattro. Ayaw ko nung Front-Trak. Teka di ba 170hp yung last na lumabas na 1.8T bago naging 2.0T?

    Tapos chip upgrade/ECU remap. Hehe.

The A4's 1.8T produces 163PS and its still in production as a lower model to the 200PS 2.0 TFSI (Turbo).
Some countries like the US upgraded their A4 lineup by dropping the lower end 1.8T models in favor of the stronger 200PS 2.0 TFSI.

I'm quite skeptic about the 320i's modest power at only 150 bhp. From a class-leader in engine technology, I certainly expected much more than that output. For one thing, the 320d makes 163 bhp, thus translating to better performance and of course, fuel economy. Unfortunately though, the diesel isn't available here yet.

As for the Audi, I'm definitely not paying 3M for this. Heck, you can buy 2 Mazda 6s with this price. It looks very nice like the quad-circle German, has just about the same power and more space being the bigger car. Reliability should also be better. If you have 3M and want pure performance, buy an Evo or WRX.

Going back to the Bimmer, I still find 2.85M too pricey even for a car that's very fun to drive. The 320i, again with anonymous power, won't outrun an SiR or any current midsize 4-cylinder Jap car. It may have more space than its predecessors, but it still won't be comfortable seating 3 at the back even in short trips. I also doubt if there are cupholders in this model. So even if it's a BMW, it's still not the best thing your money can buy. If it were the 330i at the same price, now BMW is talking!

Well, the point of the base Bimmers and Audis is not to be fastest in class.

Definitely not best value, compared to some of the terrific Japanese / American cars coming out now (Accord, Camry, Focus, Mazda6, etcetera), but they're still exclusive.

RE: Audi or Bimmer? Both have their electrical gremlin issues. I'm wondering about the tractability of Audi's hot turbos in our weather, also... I've seen at least one 1.8T overheat here... but it could be because the guy upped his boost too far...

Thus, for reliability, not much to choose from, but BMW's has supposedly been getting better as of late. Their most problematic cars now are the Minis, actually.

My choice? A Ford Focus 2.0. Feels quite European.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

Honestly, I don't exactly know how Audis became exclusive. Is it simply because it's of the same nationality as BMW and Mercedes? Well, there's Opel and Volkswagen, and I think it's better slotted there. Apart from great looks inside and out, there's not much else to expect in an Audi. They're not as fun as BMWs nor as comfortable as Benzes. I think they should work on something that can finally make their handsome cars really stand out.

The figures in the brochure came from tests done in Europe, with much better gasoline and without utter traffic. Expect actual fuel numbers to be less in this country.

Ok lang naman mababa ang resale kung hindi mo ibebenta agad. Cars like these are keepers.

So what's with Audi's 4WD? There's also Subaru's AWD for one thing. Anyway, what can Quattro do that other 4WD systems can't?

Audi pioneered the permanent all wheel drive. It transfer power from front to back and side to side as needed.According to Audi "Under ideal conditions power is split 50/50 front to rear. But in extreme cases up to 67% of the engine's power can be directed to a single wheel"

While Audi pioneered AWD, you can get the same thing from Subaru and Mitsubishi, at much lower prices and with much better performance.

But Audi definitely has a better "feel" to it. Classier interiors, solid build quality... though I thought the A4 1.6 they opened with in the late 90's was a laughable value at the price... One and a half million for a car no better than an Astra? Please... the BMW 316 was ridiculously expensive, too, but at least it was rear wheel drive.

The new A4s are a little easier to justify the premium for, but they're still only for those who can afford them.

    -----

Audis didn't use to be exclusive cars, but they've been moving upmarket and closer to BMW and Mercedes (who seem to be moving downmarket with the A-class and B-class (now that's a useless car... Merc money for a mini-MPV? ( ))).

The space that Audi used to occupy is now occupied by VW, who also moved upmarket. In fact, VW tried to do this too fast, and completely lost the plot with the VW Phaeton (nice car, but too much money for a "People's car")... now they're re-thinking this strategy... thankfully.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...
