im planning to buy brand new car, 1.3l lang para tipid sa gas. which is better between the two? no problem about the budget. just the performance, durability, reliability etc.

The Sentra is huge compared to the Vios, but the body is too heavy for the engine. Costs less to run than a 1.6 if driven conservatively, but if you try to drive at 1.6 speeds, you'll be surprised how much gas you'll use. Okay car, just don't get the AT. No power and no fuel efficiency.

The Vios will save you money on gas, but it has no ABS... yet... ask at Toyota, the 2006 ones will get ABS, I think. Pero anliit ng loob, especially compared to cars like the Sentra and the new City. Good for bachelors, but not for families.

Both are okay, afaik, in terms of maintenance. Dunno if Toyota is already following the 10,000 km checkup instead of the 5,000 km checkup, but if they do, that saves quite a bit of money for you. (Honda is already at 10,000km)

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

base on the specs of the two model mas mataas ang ps and torque ng nissan. ibig sabihin mas mabilis ito compare sa vios to think na mas magaan ang vios. and vios is more fuel efficient because it has low ps and torque and overall weight? ty guys for the info.

...about the torque, they have almost identical figures...
    Sentra: 123Nm*4400rpm
    Vios: 122Nm*4400rpm

The Sentra weighs roughly 200-250kg more than the Vios...

    95hp ang Sentra...but has a heavier body.
85hp ang Vios...and with its lighter but smaller body aces the fuel efficiency.

i have seen GX Sentras roaming the streets mukhang matulin naman.
btw, if you're going Sentra, get the GX Power variant... it's Chain driven DOHC 1.3L 16v 95hp...all power plus CD player standard.

I've seen a bare-bones, rental Sentra 1.3 GX take a podium finish at RWYB in Subic, against set-up 1600 and up cars (w/ POS tires)... but a lot had to do with the driver. :D ;)

IMO, the Vios will definitely have better fuel economy and performance given the lighter body. The Sentra has more space though..

Having driven both on the highway, the Sentra feels more stable at high speed given the additional heft (but i drove a 1.6L with the 15" wheels).

Reliability and durabilty on both will just be the same given they are equally maintained (if the Sentra has standard powerlocks it may malfunction though... achilles heel ng Taiwan part spec N16 Sentra). Resale value will favor the Vios.

The Sentra would have won because of the stiff chassis and good balance. A 1.3 has a naturally better balance than a 1.6... which also has a better balance than a 2.0... less weight on the nose means a front/rear balance closer to 55-45 than the 60-40 of the heavier engined models.

Baka puro slalom at chicane yung track sa RWYB.

That said, the newer GX is reportedly heavier and slower than the old Sentra FE, despite the 5-10hp power boost it has over the FE (which had the old GA13DE, which was also twincam and chain-belt), because it's heavier. The Vios will be faster.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

Nissan Sentra ako. Ganyan gamit ng mga kakilala kong reps. Oks na oks. Mas spacious pa sa Vios and madali bihisan.

Hindi pa masyadong cutesy ang hitsura.

go for the Sentra. Value for money talaga.

    bigger space and body too.

I hate the engine space of vios, angal muna ang aabutin mo sa mekaniko hehe. sasabihin "ang sikip tsk".

I own one. GX 1.3 powered. What can I say? The only dowsides I can tell you is that 1. It is a bit slower than vios. But once it gets to 80kph it's fairly fast. 2. No ABS, no Airbags.

But overall I'm kinda happy with it. The style is kinda old but that's where your imagination comes in. I'd like to experiment on the design. Change something little by little. It's a nice car. stable and good ac. Sentra or Vios you can never go wrong between the two. But i recommend GX.

Nissan Sentra 1.3 GX M/T (all power) is my first car. I already sold it because it was flooded and I'm planning to buy a new one. The Toyota Vios 1.3 E M/T is my wife's company car. For me, here are the pros and cons:

    Sentra:
    > More affordable! Nissan offers huge discounts compared to Toyota
    > more classic exterior design
    > Powerful aircon (this is an understatement) also, it just takes a few minutes for the car to become cold, unlike the Vios
    > Bigger body, full sedan...but less HP, hence slower vs the Vios and the City
    > hirap sa uphill drives vs the Vios
    > upholstery of the seats are not that nice. This is not a major problem though since it's very easy naman to have this re-upholstered or have a leather seat cover (just like in my case)
    > 2 speakers only! Nagpa-install pa ako ng additional 2 speakers + subwoofer
    > POOR RE-SALE VALUE (I sold mine for only P280k, well okay na rin since it was flooded naman )

    Vios:
    > easy/fun to drive
    > easier to park
    > more fuel efficient
    > more compact
    > better interior finish
    > medyo matagal lumamig yung aircon vs Sentra
    > BETTER RE-SALE VALUE

For me though, I still prefer the Sentra. May sentimental value for me. hehehe! Good luck, bro!
